Hey everyone.

I was told I have to buy car insurance to drive my car from the TRNC into the south. I was wondering where I can do this. I have lived in Famagusta since Dec. and own my own car. Can I buy it at the border cross in Famagusta? Any idea how much?

Thanks

Yes you can. You cross over to the Greek side, which is actually British SBA, and the place you buy it is on the right. Sorry can't tell you what it costs. You also get an MOT document there as well. All very straightforward.

You will need your driving licence.

Geoff at message 2 is wrong re the MOT Cert. It can only be obtained at Metahan and you will not be able to buy insurance without it. Do a site search for details.

Geoff has a GC registered car so the error is understandable.

Cost for a standard "car" 25 Euro per month.

My car is TC registered.

But, I may have made an error in my advice; I'll pop over to the border next few days and just check if you can still obtain the necessary Insurance/MOT etc at the Famagusta crossing point (called Strovilia on the GC/British side).

I have checked today at the Strovilia checkpoint. You can buy insurance there in "shop" hours, but not the MOT.

Speaking purely for myself I have never had to buy a "south" MOT, just the insurance. I HAVE been asked to produce my TRNC MOT.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for earlier/previous error.

Then you've been lucky because you cannot buy nsurance without a current MOT.

Metahan MOT office only open Monday to Friday and closes about 2 or 2,30 except one day when it is a bit later which is on another recent post.
