Hi, has anyone brought a motorbike over? I have a Kawasaki 1200 reg 2002 and would like any info on rules/regulations. Is the bike too old to import? Any help would be appreciated as I am wondering whether its worth it. Thanks in anticipation.

Yes,the bikes age is old,but you can import it if it has been in your name for 5 years or more. But,even if you had to get another one to fit the required minimum/max age, please do as the prices here...........are bloody expensive.

I brought my Harley Davidson Electroglide Ultra Classic here on a trailer behind my Transit van. ( The bikes value £22,000 ) I was informed that the import duty would be around £18,000 !)

Needless to say, I shipped it back to the UK!. Extortion, comes to mind!

I imported my 27 year old Yamaha XS750, it was just on 25yrs old when I registered it here on Cyp plates, although registered as a 'classic' it still cost as much as the bikes value in duty. Save your money and buy a more suitable bike for the roads here with the money you may have to spend on duty if you imported the Kawasaki.

does this import duty only apply to motor bikes coming into TRNC from uk, or is there a duty to be paid on one's own car when driving in from uk.

I imported my own bike.Worth every penny.Besides, you just never know what you going to get for your money here.Especialy with the Russions or ex Russions coming over as well.

Import duties apply to all vehicles.

So how does it work, this payment of import duties? I drive down to TRNC in my car bringing our belongings from uk. We cross from the mainland by ferry, is it at this point we get hit with the duty? If so, how is it calculated?

No,you do not have to pay import duties on your vehicle as soon as you arrive. What if you change your mind and decide TRNC is not for you.

You'll get 30 days permit on your arrival, then you can extend it further. It used to be 2 lots of further 6 months extensions but lately I've been told they are cutting down on that. But,laster you pay the duties the better off you are since the import duties calculated are based on the value of your car.

The model of your car (ie.European,Jap),engine size,it's age,it's weight,petrol/diesel...........are all used in calculation of your vehicle.

I have imported a number of bikes to North Cyprus and am still trying to get over the initial shock at how much duty must be paid, not to mention of 1 bike and 2 cars of mine being seized and sold at (closed) auction!

My advise is if you really want to bring a bike in then think about what bike would be suited to the road conditions, you and your budget. Expect to pay the market value of the bike again once you pay the duties here.

Slight discounts for EU built bikes, ie. BMW, Triumph, Ducati, KTM etc.

Alternatively buy a bike from me ;) I have a nice Honda 400 trail bike for sale right now!
