Just returned from a shopping trip to Lemar opposite old All Occasions. They have some fabulous tomatoes on their veggie section.(Boxed ones). Normally, I do not think much of the toms in the TRNC and do not buy them. However, these are beautiful toms, we are having stuffed toms for dinner tonight. & a great tom. salad tomorrow!

vonny, no they are much sweeter!

Wow that's really surprising... OK sometimes when they are past their best they are only good for cooking etc. but when they are freshly picked and ripe from real sun... not the hydroponic variety so prevalent in UK supermarkets, then they can be truly delicious...

Love the tomatoes here, after the dutch ones in the UK, we know the difference. When the tomatoes were 50k per kilo we bought 15 kilos, cooked them, whizzed them down, mixed in the oregano and basil and froze the beautiful sauce in 500g portions. We love good pasta dishes so it was a great opportunity to get in front with the sauces. we have many friends who go south to buy pasta sauces at hugely inflated prices (as they are here) it is such a shame to waste money like this when tomatoes are always relatively inexpensive here.

Can there be anything nicer than a really fresh, sun-warmed tomato with a bit of basil and some olive oil and balsamic vinegar with bread for a fresh, healthy lunch?

When I go back to the UK for a couple of weeks I always take 5k home with me and make huge pasta dishes for the family (7 of us when I am there) They love it and actually swipe the tomatoes from the fridge to eat like apples. so it seems we are all tomato mad in our family.

I grow my own in our garden & they are much beter than the average ones in the supermarkets here. Only problem, they are not available all year round. Do check out the ones in Lemar at present, they were superb today. I lived in Guernsey for 22 years, the home of toms!

I actually did not like the tomatoes when I first got here, but I have found the taste has improved. I love Spanish or Italian and cherry tomatoes. I would eat those like sweets. Now quite often I have a large tomato for lunch with olive oil and balsamic and herbs with fresh crusty bread.Full of Vit K .

not many people realise that you should never keep tomatoes in the fridge once they have been chilled it changes there composition that cannot be reversed keep, them in the fruit bowl, that's why there better here than the uk there picked thrown on the back of truck and in the store no refrigerated transport here

I bought a box of tomatoes from Iceland last week, and if you closed your eyes, you could have been eating anything - no taste whatsoever - I always loved the tomatoes in TRNC.....
