Does anyone know where you can buy mountain bikes and possibly a universal bike rack in Kyrenia or anywhere else in TRNC? The reason I ask is we had some friends stay in our apartment recently and she asked whether they could hire mountain bikes. I thought it would be a great idea if other owners agreed to have a few on site to hire out. Thank you. Nicky

I went to a bar in lapta which advertised bikes. I think it's too far from you though. I think you are the other side of Kyrenia?

Feeling better for seeing the God Squad clip, but somewhat cheated after watching all of it and nothing bad happened. Is that you on lead vocals?

We witnessed a lorry hitting a cyclist near the Teknicek power station this week... The guy was OK apart from some road-rash and minor cuts but he will still be sore as I write....

The driver of the lorry had the cheek to blame the oncoming cars for no swerving off road so that he could negotiate the cyclist without slowing down... He seemed to think this was normal road sense...

The police came and took our names as wintnesses but I could tell from their body language that the cyclist was going to get short shrift... I'm almost surprised he hasn't phoned to say he's been charged with swerving into the path of the driver... which he didn't....

I'm no longer surprised... by any driving habits here. Apparently, they use their cars as unofficial ambukances too.. i.e. as long as the driver has his hazzard warning lights on and is blowing his horn he expects you to cede passge to him...

We brought our bikes over when we moved here.... I would not cycle on any public roads... it's bad enough being a car driver let alone an unprotected cyclist.

Consequently our bikes just sit here... which is a shame but self-preservation is a wonderful natural instinct....

Hi Groucho

I think cyclists staged a demonstration recently to bring to peoples attention the fear they feel on the roads. Doubt it worked.

I really have an appetite for doing some mountain biking up in the mountain trails. Looks fab.

Hi BHW

I remember seeing a guide which highlighted certain trails worth exploring. I wish i could remmeber where I saw it. Apparently there is a great ride which goes past a mountain reservoir (probbaly not much water in it at present).

Can't say I have seen anywhere to buy bikes from. There must be somewhere. I'm sure someone else will know

There is a local company who pick you up from your hotel or wherever ... bike rental very cheap... daily tours in groups etc... Sunny Trails or something like that.... ... you'll see them sometimes pedalling along the top road from St Hilarious castle to Lapta on the ridge... ask the tourist information office in the harbour...

You will also see the TRNC cycling club pedalling along the Nicosia road in the early evening.. which by most people's standards is a bit crazy.. although if thre are any time trialists reading this... I only need to mention Boroughbridge course on the A1 as a comparison and it doesn't seem so bad.

Stick to the tour around Gecitkoy Reservoir... local bike hore shop in Camlibel... daily hire... weather this time of year excellent....

Thanks Traveller - maybe we should stick with just hiring them on the proper cycle trails and that way no safety issues (well apart from falling off if you have had too many Efes en route!!!!). Thanks everyone. Will have a think about it.

Didn't happen Wayne. The guys went but didn't make it in because the queue was horrendous. They ended up having a ruby instead. I stayed at home and saved some money

Good idea to get some bikes Wayne. I can see you and Tracy on a tandem. You can both prop eachother up. Make sure you tie the ghetto blaster to the side

There is a great bike shop in lefkosa, the owner is the head of the cycling federation and specks very good English. I have brough 5 bikes there so far.

If you head in to the center of Lefkosa and come the the CTA main office on your right, try and park near here as the road you need to go down is across the road and is one way. Go down this small street opp CTA about 50mt and take the turning to your right and the shop is just there. He has all the bits for bikes as well.
