UK registered car in TRNC

We are moving to North Cyprus, initially for 6 months to see whether it works for us. We will be storing our furniture and letting our house while we are away from the UK. However we intend to bring some personal property with us. We would like to bring our UK registered car with us and use it for the time we are there, returning in it back to UK. The question is how long can I legally use the vehicle in TRNC?



We would appreciate any information you can give

while you have uk tax up to one year at least thats what happened for me

Do you have your own house,contract of sale/deeds?

if not

You'll need to rent and you'll need the rent contract

Bank statement

Your log-book

Valid road tax (can be obtained here as well,but you'll need it on your return too)

Residency letter from your local 'muhtar'.

C104,the yellow paper you'll be given on your arrival at the port which'll give you 30 days permit on arrival and will have to go to Nicosia to extend it.



ps.Max age on permenent returnes has gone up tp 5 years as opposed to 3 years it used to be.However,there is a catch,you'll no longer get the %10 off from duties if you wish to keep and register it here if the vehicle is less then 5 years of age.You can only claim the extra %10 if your vehicle is over 5 years of age and been in your name for minimum of 5 years also. Though,there is an appeal aginst it to the government from the official import office,where you'd gain your licance.

We will be renting when we get over. We will be returning to UK to arrange shipping to TRNC for all our goods within the six months. We have decided to drive the car back to UK and purchase a vehicle in TRNC on our return, as from previous posts it seems to be more hassle and cost to register a UK motor. With this in mind will we be able to extend the use of the motor in TRNC for up to six months?
