Last sunday my lovely Bertie escaped from the house. He was hit by a car . We had a frantic call from the neighbours saying he was lying in their driveway. Guido rushed out of the sunday lunch service and we took him to the vets by the bypass Alsancak. We walked in and was told to wait outside. It seems she was doing something which I think was putting a poor daog to sleep. She eventually came out and we asked her if we should take Bertie insise. No i can look at him in the car. That car had been used to get logs earlier. Even though he was ona duvet. I was shocked but just needed to know he was OK. She looked at his wounds and said stiches. Out she came with a kidney bowl, not clean I add. Sprayed Idonine. and stapled his leg. I asked Is anything broken No bring him back in 10 days and spray iodine every day. I bought some from her. 100tl bill. We took him home and he didnt stop shaking . Next day I got more worried , couldnt see Pertev so took him to a vet by pinebay. nothing broken h

sorry some of this has got mixed up as my comptor is slow and fails me tonight. The vet at pine bay way said nothing broken he is in shock. We nursed him and eventually he got up on his legs by himself. With great difficulty and pain. So got him out to do his buisness with some difficulty. I knew he was not right and last night I was up all night with him. The crying was worse than any baby I have heard. Today he went to a respected Vet. Broken hip . He has to have an operation once his results come back from Istanbul. His bladder drained for ages. He has to now have injections everyday until the op. The original vet didnt even give a painkiller.I feel so bad as I have let him suffer. Anywhere else I could have recourse to sue that bloody vet. Anyway I just want him on the road to recovery

Blackie if only you really know me. I am far too soft for my own good Im constantly being told. I can bear suffering of children, old folks or animals. Also I can not bear shoddy people you pay good money to to have people or animals suffer. Blackie many have tried to change me, even today I was told to toughen up. I cant this is me. I would work in africa or anywhere thats needs help with people. \i really wanted to be a nun, but it got beaten out of me.I do what I can to help but suffer when its one of my own. Have a lovely weekend love,IN WALES. God im so jealous xx

Not sure what vets you mean. Does it have a name. And is it one of those vets with a partnership or is it the one woman alone. I want to know just to make sure if I need a vet I won#t go there.

Lilli - I hope Bertie recovers soon - he's lucky to have you looking after him. Blackbird - I agree about the weather - cold by night and day here in Mid Wales. I could put up with the cold evenings if I had some warm sun during the day. Wish I was in TRNC as well.

Lilli you sound like a really lovely caring human being, your one of the givers in love & kindness in this world don't change! It is people like you that has compassion & it is lovely to find that as so many who only care for themselves & become takers in this world. I cannot bear to hear of suffering, of animals or vulnerable people or children. Can you not make a complaint about that Vet that is not acceptable what they did?

I hope your Bertie will be comfortable & well soon.

Hi Lilli

That is awful ..... hopefully he will be well again.

You obviously did what you thought was best in the circumstances.

I only would use Pertev or Ferdez and Co ..... All of these are brilliant

We had a similar problem with a vet a year ago who kept on sending off samples for testing but which proved "inconclusive" and also prescribing expensive treatment. We asked what was wrong and were given obscure answers about diet but nothing they did stopped the symptoms. I am a Biology graduate who has worked in a Veterinary laboratory and so I asked to see the test results but none were shown to me. In fact the busy vet did not even consult a record file for our dog.

In the end we went to an extremely respected vet in Lefkosa who diagnosed the problem in seconds and was able to quickly put it right. Lilli, don't be afraid to ask to see the X-ray and be shown where the fracture is. I'm not saying that your vet is making up the fracture but after 2 vets did not diagnose a fracture make sure the third actually has evidence that contradicts the vet that you are criticising.

Lilli - "Do not trust all vets here". I feel the same about doctors and dentists here. Carol had a nasty experience with a dentist when we were there in Jan.

Meerkat - "Lilli you sound like a really lovely caring human being". She certainly is, we were so glad to meet her and Guido recently.

Liz, I totally agree about being careful of the vets. I took my cat Toto to the one that is down in the dip on the way into Girne, as Toto couldn't walk. (I thought it was easier than going all the way into Girne to see Pertev, as Toto gets car sick) She said it was just bruised and sent me home, but he looked in so much pain, and wouldn't eat, so next day took him to Pertev. His elbow joint had worn away, and had arthritis, so couldn't walk, and because of the pain wouldn't eat. Pertev had to keep him there for 5 days, with a drip, as he wouldn't eat, and give him antibiotics, and steroid injections. He is now on steroid pills and coping ok. In future I will always make the journey into Girne, but I do wish he would move out to Lapta.

We use the Vet "down in the dip" past Starling and she has always been very thorough with our two! Papachina being a retired Vet does keep and eye on things too! But, anyone can have an off day - but the one past the bypass on the left does not seem to be very well known or have a lot of patients - or does he - maybe that means something!! Its a bit like restaurants, we get what we get on that day - recommend and someone has an awful meal!! Some vets are better with some things than others - D was alwsys happier with cows than pet dogs - he hated the owners!! No, perhaps thats a little hard!! It would be so much easier if they spoke wouldnt it???

RE msg 1, Lilli: The veterinarian you're talking about is Prof. Dr. Huriye Horoz Kaya. She taught - at university - our favourite vet Firdez Baklaci how to become a caring vet. Are you sure, Lilli, there has not been some - maybe mutual - misunderstandings? (Prof. Dr. Huriye Horoz Kaya's English is rather poor, if I may say so - but her care for our dogs is beyond crtiticism).

Hans I thought i was doing the right thing taking Bertie to her.To check him out in the boot of our car I thought was strange. How can you see any damage in there. She assured me all was Ok, which I beleived. Now to find the poor soul has a broken hip is beyond me. It means I have let him suffer for a week now. She asked us to wait outside again I thought strange. I saw a very thin dog on her operating bed. A guy was watching the procedure . He came out whist she was seeing to Bertie, then went in with a black bin bag. Maybe we just picked the wrong moment.

Hi Mal yes he was xrayed yesterday and the xrays are going to the Vet in Turkey, So they know what to do. Im not sure why but heard from several customers whom use Petcross that that is their procedure. I beleive this doctor also comes here to carry out the operations. Will ask tomorrow and let you know. Just wish this could have been done from the start, it was late afternoon on a sunday, so no luck to find Pertev or Petcross. All I want is for him to walk again.

that's awful Lilli, having to wait for a veterinary surgeon to fly in from Turkey, it's a pity there's no one in the TRNC who could do the operation. It's going to cost a fortune, I wonder if there are any pet insurances here.

Hi Lilli

There is a great lady vet in Lefkosa who does operations if you don't want to wait for someone to fly over from Turkey. My little puppy broke her leg last year and the vet fixed it and it's now perfect. She is really reasonably priced as well. I think I paid less than 100TL and that included an xray and anaesthetic costs.

The vet is on the Famagusta road, not that far along on the right hand side as you are driving from Lefkosa.

Let me know if you want the phone number.

So sorry to hear about Bertie. In case Nikegirl doesn't see your msg 39, I think she means Sena at Pet Care on the Famagusta Road close to Astro, she is very good and her number is 05338682028 (she is also a colleague of Pertev).

All the best

You are most welcome Lilli, I would also have recommended Tugsad at Petrium in Lefkosa but I believe he is out of the country 'til the 15th and the sooner you can get Bertie out of pain and on the road to recovery the better.

Hi Lilli

I can't find the number but the vet is on Sehit Ozel Ali Sokak just beside Foto Feliz that you can see on the google map below. The vet office is green and you can see it from the main road. Definitely worth a visit.

Good luck!

I cant afford this at the moment. We have had two months with no buisness. However I have received a call from a member where I can get him done straight away at a cost of around 700lira. Now I have to find the way to get that. I will sell my soul if needs be. Looking at all I can sell to raise the money. We will find a way xxxxxxxxxx

Ceylan, msg 41, 43 and 46, yes Sena is the vet I meant. My little dog was vomiting blood at about 1am last night (she is ok this morning thankfully!) and Sena answered her phone in the middle of the night. She's a great vet!
