Any one have advice on cleaning water tank after not being used for 6 months ?

I know people say to run all the taps for a while to clear the stale water in the system but what about the tank.

If it's a few years old, drain it, clean it, fill it, sterilize it, run all pipes/taps through with sterilized water, leave for 24 hours, drain it again and fill with fresh water.

All depends on the size and material that the water tank is made off.

WE don't bother as we buy in the 19 liter bottles of drinking water and our tank is plastic.

Legionnaires Disease is not transmitted by drinking water, but by inhaling the vapour created in a shower.

One of the reasons a/c units should be serviced - the coils and condensate drains should be cleaned and flushed with diluted biocide. There are many sources of LD and wet cooling towers have been found to be a major risk. LD bacteria exists in any stagnant water which can be inhaled as a vapour. A roof tank full of stagnant water is a risk to people showering with it.

wattys,

Swimming pool chlorine will do the trick. Couple of lbs in your cold water tank and draw it through by opening H&C taps, showers and flushing toilets.
