Go here: http://ukincyprus.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/

There is a form that you can down load for a temporary travel document. Ring the High Commission, they will be able to assist - tel: 0392-2283862

Did you, by chance, simply forget to pick it up when you were last at a border crossing, or from a hotel reception desk after filling in the form? Have you searched your car thoroughly, or could you have left it in someone else's car? Just thoughts............

Steve Most urgent follow the instruction in Msg 2 - also advise anyone who might use your passport for identification i.e. your bank etc.

Did you have a copy of the main pages stored anywhere?

If you had a residency permit and you are about to leave the country and return here to the TRNC and you do not have photocopies of your passport or residency page then you will need to go to the Migration Department in Lefkosa and explain the situation and ask them to supply you with copies. Although you will be able to leave with a new passport or temporary travel documents if you have not got the rest of the info you will have trouble getting back into the country.

my wife washed mine last year , you need to get your photo's done as you will need an emergency passport costing 115 euro's ( cash only ) the new passport only lasts for your return and will be held by the boarder control .

recommend the same as msg 2 - ring the British High Commission. Additional tel. no. 228 3861.

usually such commissions / embassy offices can provide a temporary travel document / passport so that you can fly back to you country without any problems.

I also would recommend you to inform the police if you are sure that you have lost it just to prevent that it is used by anyone else at the borders etc.

wish you luck!

You need to get a police report as I lost mine a few years ago here in the trnc and it was required to renew the lost one. You then have a nightmare for ages until the new passport number gets into the system. It may turn up as yet so fingers crossed.

Have you had a photo copy done lately as I swear that was where I left mine behind one day.

Yes you must go to police station report it, then call British High Commission asap.

How stressful for you, good luck!

Hi everyone, thanks for your concerns and your very helpful replies, can't thank you all enough.

Cut a very long story short, the passport is back. Last Wednesday I went to the bank to use it as Identification. I was certain I had not left it there and that I had brought it home. In a senior moment I did leave it there. Did'nt realise it was missing until last evening, you can imagine complete panic set in!! Went to the bank this morning at 8am, the girl at the desk waved it at me and said "by the way here's your passport"

Grateful its back but why the bank didn't call of mail me is beyond me.

Alls well that ends well.

But it is important that expats retain a photocopy of their passport pages. It makes life a lot easier if you do lose your passport.

Steve Msg 10 - if they had called you and it was not you answering they could have ended up with all sorts of trouble on your account - glad you have it back anyway - now make sure you have copies of any important pages just in case!

Guys, believe me, this one document (if lost or mislaid) sends you into orbit!! You cannot imagine the nonsence involved in trying to get a replacement or emergency travel document, coupled with your residency in there Etc etc, lesson learned I can tell you.

Again, thanks for all your replies, much appreciated.

So glad you found it, what a nightmare. This is a reminder to us all to keep copies of the important pages so I'm going to scan ours now and take some hard copies.

Thanks

Eileen Msg 16 - If you have a way to do it email the scans to yourself and keep them on the web (i.e. hotmail etc) that way you can get them from anywhere.
