Can anyone tell me the ruling for the Post Offices in the TRNC please.

1. If your mail is addressed to your house, are the Post Offices obliged to deliver it there?

2. If registered mail is sent to your house, should the Post Office deliver a note to your property telling you that you have registered mail at the Post Office to be signed for?

I no longer have a PO Box, because all correspondants know my home address, but still, Alsancak Post Office keep putting my mail into my old box number which obviously I no longer check.( Well, rarely now!) A parcel as even squeezed into the box and urgent mail is often not discovered for days if not weeks!

These boxes are not secure and can be opened with a pen-knife !

No, the post office don't deliver, you have to go to the post office to pick up any mail, if you don't have a P.O. Box. If it's registered, you sign for it at the post office. You should go into the post office and tell them you no longer have the box, and not to put nything in it.. It's no good saying it should be done in a certain way, or as in England, because this is North Cyprus, and it's a lot easier just to accept it's different, and adjust things accordingly. We don't have postmen here, although they have tried in a couple of places, but had to move them to do different jobs.

Don't understand this. When we were living in Kyrenia the postman delivered our mail on his yellow moped and they do the same in Nicosia. Never had to pick anything up at the GPO.

Stellasstar1 I like it can we quote it everywhere "this is North Cyprus, and it's a lot easier just to accept it's different, and adjust things accordingly"

Mail was always delivered to my house by the postman when it was addressed to my house. Mail addressed to the PO Box was delivered there, but now they put ALL my mail to the PO box I no longer own ('Cos it's easier than delivering it!) !

Sorry Stella but there IS a post-man in Alsancak and he used to deliver addressed mail to my house ! I just wondered what the law is here, if there is one. ? ( This week there were three letters in my old post box addressed to the person who had the post box NEXT to my old one. How do I know ? I opened my old post box with a pen-knife to check for overdue mail! I re-posted them back in the Post Office.

The Catalkoy postman brings mail to Bufavento but wont take it round to individual houses he just dumps it on a friends doorstep whether he is there or not then the poor man has to take it round. Or it just sits there. He is constantly telling the post master not to do this as he goes to the uk often so the post is going nowhere. Yes he is a nice postman but very lazy i think. He sits outside the post office most of the time looking bored!
