Here's the challenge .....

You have 2 full days and a car. You want to show a new visitor to the North around. How would you plan your time so that the visitor gets a real feel for the TRNC, both sights and culture? Where would you stay for your one night?

As many of you live there and know the area very well I'm hoping that you'll come up with a few ideas that aren't on the normal tourist hit-lists!

I would head east on the new road past Esentepe, keep on the coast road and go to Kantara castle for superb views. Head on towards the Karpaz, stop for lunch in Yeni Erenkoy. Drive through Dipkarpaz and then all the way to the monastary and on to the tip. Come back and stay the night in one of the hotels near Yeni Erenkoy, Balci Plaza. Early breakfast and head to Salamis, go to the walled city in Famagusta for some more culture and lunch. If you have the time and the energy go into the centre of old Nicosia. Back over the mountains for dinner. I guess as you only have 2 days then you are showing tourists around so dinner in the harbour. Not the best food but it has to be done.

It depends on the visitor's age,and what they like.

Most of my visitors like the "touristic"parts.

Cetainly I try and take them to the Karpaz.I leisurely drive along the coastal road, stopping at delightful coffee places, take in Buffento castle, see the golden beaches as you head to Dipkarpaz. Then make for Burhan's place on the Karpaz.Stay the night in the beach hut !!!Look out for donkeys and beautiful birds.

Mikelapta, good point!

She's middle aged, loves beautiful views, history and walking. hates loud music and crowds!

I agree with most tips in msg 2, but the map below may give you even more details for a stunning route on your way to the Karpaz:

St. Hilarion, Bellapais, Karpas(z) beaches, Salamis Famagusta city walls and Nicosia city walls where the 'north' overlooks the south in the old Armenian Qtr..

THAT will cover the complexities and your guests will fly home exhausted

I totally agree with message 2. In fact I'm going to do that now in a couple of months when it's warmer.
