Please can anyone advise me please. I cannot use my phone. I tried the sim card in another phone and no joy. I have tried it now in 4 different phones and have no connection. I understood that the Sim would not work if it was not used for 3 months but I have been using it almost daily. However it is probably about 3 months since I topped up. I paid approx £50 so that I would not run out and I have checked the balance and still have 300 credits. Surely I won't have been cut off?!

Yes but i have been using it daily. I kept getting messages in turkish that I could not understand so asked the Turkcell office when I paid my internet on Wednesday. She read the message and said i could go to Customer services and have the messages stopped. There being a queue i didn't bother. however she failed to tell me if it said it was about to be cut off!!

I think it'a the three month thing that is the problem . If you top it up with 10 lira you have another three months again . it doesn't matter how much credit you have , it is the length of " non top up " time. Weird and wonderful system !!

If you top it up at the Turkcell office you might get it re-connected

Has anyone been to the Turkcell office to try and get all the "spam" stopped? I'm getting anything up to 6 or 8 text messages a day from Hotels, Shops, Mobile phone companies etc. It really is becoming a nuisance. Sorry if I've gone off topic a little!!

Try calling the Turkcell customer care number which is 4440533 ( a free call) it wil be answered by an automated message, you will be given the chance to dial 77 for English speaking adviser. Generally they are really helpfull.

For someone reading this who uses Telsim (vodaphone0, dial 4440542 and then dial 94 tospeak to an english speaking operator. they will be able to advise if the account has been closed or if you need to add more contour (credit) to get the phone working. Usually your credit isn't lost but is usable after more credit has been added. Good luck.

Turkcell pay an go sim cards has a time line. After 3 months of not topping up, you will not be able to make any calls but will be able to receive them. After another 3 months you can not make or receive any calls. And finally if you have not topped up for over 10 months, it gets cut off and you have to buy a new sim card. If you make sure to top up your phone at least every 3 months, you should be fine.

This system is also similar to their 3G internet pay an go sim cards.

Hope this helps.

If you search at the top of this page "Turkcell Sim Help Required" you will find postings started April 09. Message 11 onwards from Millzer is extremely helpful.....I actually printed all this info off and it has worked fine for us, no problems at all.

When we come back to TRNC after a long time has elapsed, I make sure I've got a top up card in my purse and top the credit up as soon as we arrive and all our previous credit is still there.

Hope this helps

This explains why our second emergency phone with credits on it suddenly froze!! I did not know that if you didnt top it up within three months, you loose the credits!! I had used it regulary for a few texts to keep in touch when I am out and about and could not understand the other week why I suddenly had no service!! Guess not to overload it with too much credit for the 'light user'!!
