President Derviş Eroğlu has verified earlier reports in the Greek Cypriot Alitihia newspaper that the United Nations has found the Turkish Side’s proposals on the property issue as positive. Commenting on the issue yesterday, President Derviş Eroğlu reminded of the Turkish Side’s proposal to put Turkish properties in the South up for evaluation and to be exchanged with former Greek Cypriot properties in the TRNC

“Both the United Nations Secretary General and several other foreign sources had told us that they supported our proposals. As a result what the newspaper wrote is true” he added. Pointing out that a team of Greek Cypriot property experts would be holding contacts in New York; Eroğlu said that he too would be sending a team of experts to New York. “We shall continue discussions once the teams return to the island. The Secretary General’s plan is that we hold discussions on the property issue before he invites us for another tripartite meeting at the end of March” the President added.

They willhave to get a move on then, what with Mr Moon talking of a twomonth deadline. But no oe says what will happen if the deadline is not met. Let's hope that the south moves a little from its seemingly total position of intransigence.

Wish I could go on the trip to do some PR! Nice trip for '#the boys'. Or should one say in view of the cut backs 'is your journey really necessary?'
