Does anyone know if it's possible to have the above fitted to with inlet side of the water supply( before the meter). this is to remove grit, sand and air. Also if it can be done recommendations of a company or person to carry out this work would be appreciated.

Most traps are only for fitting after the pump.. i.e. not on mains pressure. not before the lower tank and certainly not on the local authority's bit... which is everything up to and including the meter.

John Msg 4 - That sounds reasonable if the product is doing the job -but what the h... are they giving you is it UV plus a filter or what? The fitting side is not expensive but good quality equipment doing a proper job can be a lot more than your 1200 tl

http://www.softcleanwater.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8&zenid=495360185645d4ab3ca2a9cc0ddf4e93 (if the link does not work go to the site http://www.softclaenwater.co.uk and on the left is a link to the UV page) it will explain what UV can do.

Want to know more contact us.

Julie and John Msg 5 - Have a look at EcoPure and H2O products some may be what you are looking for. BTW I would suggest that any equipment is in the shade away from the ravages of the weather.

You are missing the point that Gaz wants to stop the crap arriving at the meter.

I put this post on because I want to stop the following from happening.

1). The tap and water meter get clogged up with grit.

2). The ball cock valve on my water tank stops operating due to grip stopping the seal with the washer.

3). If I was able to remedy this by fitting a trap on the inlet side of supply it would also vent air and stop me

being charged for air every time the water is turned off.

If as Richard says cannot fit on the inlet I may have to fit on the house hold side of the meter if any one can fit at a reasonable price.

You need a y strainer like this

http://www.bes.co.uk/products/098.asp

you would have to put a stopcock before it to enable you to clean.

Colin Msg10 - following the Y strainer with a stop valve (on both sides). How about a 25 Micron filter which will remove a large amount of the other rubbish?

Five Micron would be too fine and would generally be wanted for drinking water and other applications a well as being liable to clog up too quickly.)

BTW the BES prices seems quite competitive.

Looking at the replies you've had, the simplest and most cost effective method to reduce sediment is the inline strainer, ensure you inspect it regularly and keep it clean.

There are a lot of products out there but depends on the quality of water supplied and its final use. The link supplied on one of the replies was also very good.

Steve re your message 9.

I used to use an in line filter to remove particles when irrigating our fields of strawberries / Kolakas. The filter is nylon mesh, all fittings are british standard pipe i.e. 1/2, 3/4, 1 " etc. Oe of these filter can be fitted just after the metre and should prevent any debris blocking ball valves etc. the price was very reasonable (20 TL)

Re your poit 3.

I had the same problem with empty water pipes filling with air and ended up with water bills for 220 tonnes of water, when te house was empty. I sorted this by fitting an air vent before the meter but first i got permission from the local belediye. A very simple job if you have the tools. Make sure you get the belediye to consent before you mess. The parts required are available from any farming irrigation suppliers. The one i used was Necat Zorlu situated on the industrial estate in Nicosia. Let me know if you need any more info. Don't forget to clean the filter regularly.
