biggest problem is learning the language!! its ok if you live in NC full time, but those of us that live there for a few months of the year have to rely on phrase books and then we don't pronounce it right ...

Apart from learning Turkish - which I find hard to remember but well worth the effort - it seems to me that the biggest problem most people face is the fact they live here - not anywhere else in the world but HERE. Once that step has been taken then its back to the Turkish learning thing again......

Frustration at chaotic, overstaffed and inefficient bureaucracy where common sense, leadership and a sense of personal responsibility is hard to find.

On the plus side, under this system you can walk right into their offices, squeeze past their workstations and get direct access with the mudur or direktor who may be able to sort you out there and then.

Which includes Cypriots born in UK, but it don't work that way, they do better here than we (english) do.

e.g. prices paid for things.

Ha! message 14 ''eg prices paid for things''

so i suppose places like Lemar or Tempo have 2 tills,1 for the brits,1 for the locals.you fail to mention it goes on all the time in the UK,If a builder, plumber ect see's you have money,he'll bump up his prices or they will make out you need work done which you dont, you dont have to be a Foreigner, they do it to their own, especially the elderly.another example, when someone comes to fix your tv or washing machine,it could be a minor thing but they will make out its something really expensive, its happening all the time,Funny how people who have moved here forget things though, isnt it.

If you have any problem, you need to find somebody who knows somebody in that office, then you will not even have to wait in the que.

Unfortunately that 's how things have been and will be for the rest of time. Yavash Yavash.

I think the language problem is the biggest issue - if you want to integrate with the locals that is.

Hey No 1..imagine a language chip that you could have implanted, that would enable you to speak the lingo. How fantastic would that be!
