Is anyone else getting facebook requests from people you don't know? In the last few days I seem to have received numerous requests from people in Girne who I don't know and I have also received emails. I wondered if it had anything to do with the number of posts on the forum that alerts people?

I hate to refuse anyone, so I simply accept almost all requests. I suppose ladies are in a different position

I am unaware of any direct link between the forum and Facebook. I suppose a number of people could manually trawl the board and then use friend finder but I doubt it.

I don't think it is anything to do with the Forum, but more likely that it is the 'mutual' friends that are the base cause.

People look for people they can add to their list. For some there is a bit of a competition to aim for something like a thousand friends or more to make them look popular, and of course they probably do not know three quarters of them being added by the requests that come flooding in.

Personally I think it is dangerous to add people you don't know, but who am I to say - good friendships could be made that way, and who knows, a life partner! But I repeat, I am sure it is nothing to do with the Forum.

does anyone think it is, because I could be well wrong.

I have had a lot from American soldiers looking for a wife! I must look young on my fb profile. Some of them claim to have met me about 20 years ago, but I know for sure that they haven't!!

Snaefell there are some well known scams from nigeria purporting to be US military, so be careful and my advice is to ignore anything that is not familar.........trust me, your not that desperate lol

I ommited to say that all new "friends" are purporting to study at GAU.... hence my thinking a connection to the forum... obviously I delete if I don't know the person etc .... just wondered if others were experiencing the same.

Message 4 - Me too & I just accept them. (mainly do for work purposes)

But one of them did say they got my address from the forum, when I asked.

Sorry for sounding stupid - Is it dangerous to add them, I have not enough personal details on there?

If you look on your facebook page, click on " edit my profile", "contact information""add remove email address", then scroll down to Privacy, and click manage, then tick " friends only ".This should stop any unwanted friend requests...............in theory, hope this helps.

Steve.
