I went there mike, they gave me a telephone number to call as I needed the official document that states your fine before you can pay at Girne. They said it would be posted out, but so far nothing. I think what I need is to go to issuing office and ask for it. I dont want stopped at the border when I am going Back.

Normally when you cross at the border you are given a piece of paper and told to report to the piolice station. TGhen they will happily take your money! And I mean 'happily'. Don't rely on the post.

Hope it is not tooi much!

Think it depends on where. I had one on the Ercan Road - payable at Lefkosa PS, and one on the Girne/Lapta Road - payable at Girne PS.

Hi Dumyat,

I think it will depend on what area the ticket is issued.

We (car registered in both our names) had a speeding ticket delivered to our house, by 2 policemen.

This was for a ticket issued before we were even on the Island,

or even owned the car!

Had to prove we were not owners at the time or here when it was issued :-(

So check when and where the ticket was issued before you consider paying up.

Good luck.

unless you have signed a piece of paper to say you have received the fine ! you then have 14 days to pay for it. if they have not given you the fine in person and you have not signed to say you have received it. you are free to leave the country. on return you will probably be made to sign and will be given the fine on re entry to the country.

i had a phone call saying i had a ticket in magosa 3 months back, i was leaving to turkey the next day so went to kyrenia police station to try to pay for it.

i was told, it is not binding and you can not be stopped from leaving the country unless you have signed and received the fine. only after your 14 days are up can customs hold you up at the airport and force you to pay before boarding your flight. i was told to do as i wish until the fine is transfered from magosa to kyrenia at which point the kyrenia police will contact me to come and sign to say i have received the fine.

hope this helps

Hi I visit TRNC once/twice a year for a court case – very stressful!

I’m trying to work out how many points I will have at this point and if banned how long for...

•2009 (Feb) – visited

•2010 (Feb) – visited, received 3 fines from 2009 and paid them.

•2011 (Feb) – visited. Just heard from car rental we got 7(!) fines whilst there this visit! There were 2 of us driving – I was main driver & additional driver listed on rental agreement.

Questions:

1) Are all speeding fines a standard 25 points or can it be more per fine eg less than 20km over = 25 points and over = 50 points?

2) Are points recorded against you by the incident date or payment date?

3) Can you split fines between the 2 people who were driving as co-driver was listed on rental agreement? If so would she have to come with me at the same time to do this?

Bearing in mind the timescales, am I at this point banned and if so would that be for 3 months or 6 months (or a year?!).

Thanks, very grateful, Mike

Sirius,

ok, I think I can answer this one seriously.

1. Points vary depending on how many km/s you are opver the speeds limit. I think 5 points for up to 20 km/s over the limit, then 20 or 25 points etc. I will give you a more definite answer when I get home and look at my speeding tickets

2. If you accumulate 100 points or over over 15 months you get yur license supended for 3 months. Every time you get 100 points or over the suspension is doubled i.e 6 months, one year etc.

3. The driver is supposed to get the points but even the police will encourage you to get just anybody to come and accept the points. They are interested in money, not justice.

4. The relevant date for the points is the date of the event, not the time you pay the fine.

5. Once you get points the time begins to tick and after 15 months you start with a clean slate.

I will be in Famagusta Court on Speeding on Monday 21st March, come and watch the action

Hi Ismet,

how do you get away with not paying your fines?

I have been asked to go to the station and pick mine up but never bothered, are they not legally binding then ?

Simply I go to court and plead "not guilty" and then I use my legal and technical skills to get an acquittal

You better go and collect your tickets or you may be prevented from lşeaving TRNC.

I dont think it works like that , it doesn't matter that you haven't been charged , they will prevent you from leaving until you have paid your fines . I was stopped at Passport control on entry , told about my speeding fine , and when and where to pay it .
