We did it recently, and we took passport, and elec. bill, I don't think they charged us, but cant be certain.

They where very efficient, and it was done the same day.

Hope you get the same luck. There is one gentleman who is in a separate office, in the upstairs section of the main building, speaks very good English, and he was very helpful.

( We took them a couple of packets of nice biscuits) may have helped.

You will also need to pay an elecricity deposit to get the bill in your name. This varies, depending on your nationality. Turkish Cypriots pay 180 TL whilst Brtis have to stump up around a 1000TL ( not sure on the exact fee) but it should give you an idea. The law seem to change fruequently. You will also need photocopies of Passport (and also your tenancy agreement if you are renting).

On a seperate but related topic. Can any one tell me if your meter readings can be obtained on line? I seem to remember a post a few weeks ago which said you could, but i have searched and cannot find it.

I need to check if some bills on our complex have been paid by the maintenance company.

That seems extortionate. How much to have your name put on the water bill?

Provided the bills are always paid and on time, is there a problem if you leave the bills in someone elses name?

Message 8. This seems horrendously extortionate. We didn't pay Alsancak anything to change our water bill from builders name to our name, neither did our neighbours. We just took contract down to the office, they checked there was no outstanding bills and the names were changed on the office computer. Registering in the first place for the first time is a different thing altogether I would suspect.

I changed names last August, the deposit was 400tl.

Msg 10, I suppose it doesn't matter if you're renting and the landlord is happy but if you're the owner I would have thought it better to take over from the builder - is there something about being on builders rates? which are higher than for an ordinary resident.
