I have just been sitting out in the sun and I heard a vehicle driving along our road at speed (cul de sac) and went around to the front of our villa to see what was going on. The 2 occupants of the vehicle got out in a hurry leaving the car doors open and ran up into the foothills of the mountains. Within 10 minutes they returned with a young child (maybe 8 or 9 years of age) in tow and one of them was carrying a womans hand bag. When they saw me they explained (showing me their Police badges) that this lad was a thief and had just stolen the handbag. They said that If I was ever to see him in this area again then to contact them straight away or deal with him how ever I thought fit. One of the policemen is a neighbor of mine and they made sure that they held him in front of me so that I would recognize him in the future. I think he is just about to get summary justice and his parents will also receive some educational information.

He will get the same justice that we got from the local bobby's when we were kids.

And it works.

I can remember when we respected the police as kids, if we had done any thing like that our/my parents would have knocked our heads off!

The local cops were on bikes and would clip us around the ears if we were cheeky or looked like we were up to some thing. We used to hide their bikes and scarper. They knew who we kids were.

Think if the police were to be the law again half of the youngsters would not get into trouble.

A good smack didn't do me any harm, and I never dared tell my parents......

Glad to see the same respect for the police is ensured as in the old days. No, I'm not condoning child brutality by the police.

For those who don't realise it the suggestion that AlsancakJack deal with him however he thought fit was - I hope still is - more to scare lad rather than a an open invitation. We don't know the exact motives involved so not a lot more one could say.

Not only red handed but red faced.

Article 16 of the trnc constitution

(2) No person shall be deprived of his liberty save in the following cases when and as provided by law:

(a) the detention of a person after conviction by a competent court;

Hopefully this youngster will be so frightened that he won't consider doing anything like this again, a short sharp lesson won't do him any harm.

where were the police dispensing summery justice to the chap on page 1 of cyprus today ( todays edition) selective enforcement of the law can only bring the law into disrepute, would any one disagree all should be EQUAL before the law?

For goodness sake! This is a 'young child' you are discussing.

Guilty or not, I am appalled at the attitude of the police in exhorting a member of the public to act as a vigilante and dispense whatever justice they 'think fit'.

I do not imagine for one minute that Alsancakjack would give him anything but the sharp edge of his tongue and I would like to think that goes for the rest of you but, reading through these posts I have my doubts.

Nigel. Why dont you post this topic on your forum?

If I remember, not long ago britvic was asking "where is everyone"!?

If you spent as much time on your own forum as you do on 44, then maybe britvic and others would post more??

All you do is post the news......

absolutely right. The lad was told in Turkish that now everyone knows who he is in our area and I have since found out from our neighbors that he has been paraded around the neighborhood so that everyone is aware of who he is. And the police have made him aware of the fact that he had no protection from them if he committed a further crime in the neighborhood although I know that no one would even think about bringing harm to him.

Human rights !!!!!!!!!! the reason the UK is now on its arse socially, is because of the do good mentality, just read the papers and see how many people are out there taking the P..s and getting away with it because the system cant touch them, read my latest blog with my views on Social Services and National Service, only my opinion but I bet youve got something to say about it....

My message RE: AJ (the truth and nothing but the truth, I swear), which used to be # 40 in this thread is not # 40 anymore - it has been deleted by someone (who doesn't like to read the truth and nothing but the truth about himself?). No problem though. A screenshot was taken and will be published on the new blog. A screenshot has been taken of this post also. You can't trust some Moderators nowadays, can you?

P.S. RE msg 54: You go shopping, rowlo, and spend some money - while I win some money from your wife playing chess...
