Hi, I have an Asus netbook which uses the Linux operating system, I would like to use it with a Telsim dongle but apparently the software does not work with it. I have been told that it is possible to download the necessary software/drivers, but not reallt sure of what to do. Anyone out there that could help, I am happy to pay to get this sorted otherwise it means buying another netbook with windows software.

Thank you.

you have to open network connections, right hand side of top taskbar,

right click enable mobile broadband,

left click edit connections

left click mobile broadband,

click add,

type in the number ( I have *99# ) check your provider for this they should know,

the APN, you can get this from your provider,

type= any,

PPP Settings, Configure Methods I use CHAP, but tick them all until you find the one that works,

IPv4 settings DNS server I use 202.136.43.xxx you can get this from your provider

I doubt there is any software for your dongle on Linux, I have never heard of any,

if you set up your dongle in Windows then you can find all the settings write them down and then apply them to linux, it took me a few days to find a solution for my dongle when I installed PinGuy Linux, don't give up because Linux is one of the best operating systems around and all updates and software are free,

Msg 1 - I am not sure that you can't dual boot the machine & so use both operating systems (if you like what Linux does for you on the Netbook) if you have enough capacity (which might not be the case). You would need to ask an expert.

According to ours you could use a partitioning tool if you were in the UK he could do it for you.

You must also take into account the cost of a proper copy of Windows and if your machine could run it well.

The cost of some netbooks and tablets is falling in some cases the specs are rising and you could get one with windows. Difficult choice as you might need to get new software as well.

Thanks Aussiejock, but it all sounds a bit too complicated for me, thats why I am looking for someone with the knowhow to do it.

I may try taking it down to the Telsim shop in Girne High Street to see if they can help.

Think I would rather pay and get it sorted rather than chance it myself.

Anyone out there who could sort this for me.
