We are just about to finalise our journey from UK to Girne and have only ferry to arrange from Tasucu. They now are taking boookings online, wonder if anyone has booked this way and if so any problems. We are hoping to get the sunday night ferry as they do not run fri and sat and wondered if it was more advisable to book this now. Do the ferries get booked early and would we find it difficult to book just a few days before.

Regards

D & J

jardap,

From personal experience they are still boarding until the early hours of the morning and actually set sail in the middle of the night. Online booking should hopefully save you a load of hassle as you have to make your way round various offices getting things stamped for your car, passenger permits etc and nobody to hold your hand. It's probably a good idea to turn up in time to check with the booking office that everything is in order.

Take some strong cologne and barley sugars with you just in case. ;)

We have done this trip in Dec 08 it doesnt really matter whether you book online or go down to the small booking office which is in Tasucu. There is normally about five ferries that leave at the same time to Girne.

Just to make you aware if you are driving to Tasucu you will most likely pass a small town called Pozante which is 1500 metres up in the mountains. We got stuck in a snow storm here for at least 10 hours and missed the ferry on thursday night and had to spend two nights in Adana and one night in Mersin. Please make sure that you arrive at Tasucu with plenty of time to spare because if it snows you could get stuck in this particular town. If you are driving a van please note that the speed limit in Turkey is different for a van than it is for a car and the police hide by the road and radio ahead to their colleagues to stop and fine you.

Booking online will not make processing paperwork any quicker when you get to Tasucu. Its a bit up in the air and can only be done when you are boarding the Ferry.

The ferries are very uncomfortable and not very clean. Also note that if you are coming with you own vehicle it needs to be registered in your own name if it is not you will need written permission from the owner as you will not be allowed into the TRNC.

Hope this helps if you need any more info just let me know.

Good Luck

re message 3 you will not be allowed into Turtkey either.hen we travelled through an English guy had been stopped at the Turkish border for 2 days trying to sort out his paperwork, luckily the owner of the car he was bringing through for had connections at theTurkish Embassy in London which speeded things up. Likewise be aware that you will have to purchase Insurance in mainland Turkry and when you arrive in Kyrenia double bubble I'm afraid. We didn't book our ferry beforehand from Tasucu and had no problems they are happy to get as many passengers on as possible, we ended up on an open deck with no seating and got covered in soot from the funnels so be warned. Also your car will not be on the same ferry as yourself you have to take it to a different port further back along the road and go through Customs there with all the paperwork and then drive it onto a cargo ferry which leaves just before the passenger ferry, they then take you back to the passenger ferry port. If you need any further information please ask. Having said all this we had a great time driving to the TRNC.

we did this journey just about 15 months ago and booked everything on line prior to leaving UK.

The ferry was not on time and we spent hours on the side at Tasecu, and the ferry boat was disgusting (I was quite ill the next day after arriving)

There was no question of us not being on the same boat as the car, what are you booking?

It was a small part of the journey from UK so put it into context

The very best bit was the site of North Cyprus as we approached!!

Yes, same boat for us and car as well. Have something light at the excellent harbourside restaurants in Tasucu or you may well be throwing it up later - the crossings can be very heavy. A roll of crushed cardboard may come in handy to sleep on, if you can manage any with the two TVs blaring overnight in the saloon. Still, our little ones slept through it. If it's still the Fergun Express, lifejackets are in a big cage next to the tea kiosk, but don't worry, it's OK.
