I started a thread about F1 - for those interested in F1 - and it got a little sidetracked

So here's hoping we can stick to the topic..

McLaren have already been dismissed by many of us as 'no hopers' for the Aussie GP, yet we have Martin Whitmarsh ( their MD) saying "his team will confound the critics to produce strong results in the Australian Grand Prix."

Would he say this if he didn't know something we didn't.. have McLaren been sandbagging after all ?

Tyres..

It's just been announced by Pirelli how we'll be able to see who's running on what - as the teams must run two differing compounds during the race- should be LOTS more pit-stops this year.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9429326.stm

Will being careful with tyres reward Jenson Button's smoother driving style.. ?

Will Pirelli's new colour code system be beneficial ? Will it make teams change their minds as others change to a different colour ? It could lead to a lot of uncertainty in the pit lanes that's for sure !

All the hype has been about how well Red Bull have tested and now Schuey is saying he is now able to " fight" for a podium finish now that they have sorted the car out ( another English based team ). !!.

McLaren have been keeping quiet and i fully expect them to surprise Red Bull. ! Also , have you noticed Mark Webber has shrunk away from the press since the end of last season ? Unrest in the Red Bull camp ??

All the " hot country " races are coming up first so i see a championship of two halves .

Mornin' 'Arry

It ain't been THAT hot in Melbourne in the last few days.. it's been raining and 22C ! I think Mark Webber will have to do his talking behind the wheel as Vettel has the contract extension and his is up in the air :(

Found this great Beeb interview with the McLaren pair...

Anybody seen the new Head and Shoulders advert ?? :D

Couldn't find it in English .... Veta saw it and said 'didn't realise Button was so handsome' !! :o

Will this mean I feel have company watching the F1 races...?

I must say i had to chuckle over the Shuey remark, " I can challenge for the chequered flag in some races " !!!! Having said that , he set the fastest time in all nine days of testing !! So you never know ! . Brawn surprised everyone a couple of seasons ago but surely it's going to be the big three challenging again .

My heart is going to rule my head again as i go for McLaren to win in Aus !

Good article following testing and why I worry that RBR will walk away from others in race trim - based on the long runs in testing

"Red Bull have also raised eyebrows with their consistency and speed over longer spells on track.

Analysis of Webber's long runs at the final test suggested that after 10 or more laps he was 0.7 seconds per lap faster than others, showing the car has pace and is kinder on the tyres.

That could be crucial in a season when tyre wear and management is expected to be key factors."

At least last season that managed to 'blow' this edge with reliability and driver errors ... WE- the punters - want to see close racing AND overtaking.. not just overtaking in the pits..

Hi Rigsby

It will indeed be interesting to see if your 'God' still has what it takes, given a fast car...

I think the blond Adonis in t'other 'grey' car will ultimately outscore him... ;)

No one has mentioned Alonso, who I have backed with Betfred at 3\1, is that an omen?

This season is going to be a lot more interesting because of the tyre choices.

IF Ferrari have a car that is nearly as fast as the RBR one your bet is ( very) wise.. They SHOULD be the class of the field.. but one doesn't know if McLaren have used the extra 2 weeks wisely or the Mercedes have caught up..

Methinks the RBR's were sandbagging in testing
