Foreign Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün has said that the Greek Cypriot side’s ongoing efforts to explore natural gas and oil off the coast of Cyprus were not aiding the ongoing Cyprus negotiations process.

Speaking at the end of yesterday’s Council of Ministers meeting, Mr. Özgürgün said that the government was closely following the events concerning the Greek Cypriot side’s efforts towards natural gas exploration on the island.

‘The Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias during his Israel visit signed a variety of agreements regarding exploration of the island’s natural resources and made a call on Israel to pressure Turkey’, said Özgürgün.

He expressed the view that the ongoing negotiations will ultimately end in failure if the Greek Cypriot side continues to regard the Turks of Cyprus as a minority on the island and does not change this vision.
