Can anyone tell me the process of moving in to a new house and getting the name changed on the electric and water bill and what costs might be incurred.

Thank You!

I'm not sure if things have changed, but all we did when we wanted to take builders off our water bill, was to take our contract down to the Alsancak Municipal offices. They checked there were no outstanding bills and a lady altered the computer there and then. No charge. Not sure about electricity though because our builders did it for us.

Make sure all bills are paid before you buy the property!

The local muhtar should be able to sort out the water bill for you. The electric is a bit different and you will need to go to their office and leave a deposit. I am not sure of what that currently is ?cos we did it years ago.

The local gov should send you a bill re council tax.

i took my passport and old bills to kibtec office in girne , it was done right away , i had already paid £1000 to have my metre connected maybe 18mnths previous , so bills were still in builders name , but no further charges for name change , and no stamped contract reqd .

Has any one arranged a name change from Kibtec in the last few weeks ?

As rules seem to have changed, it would help to know exactly what documentation is required at present !!

You will need a copy of your purchase and sale agreement that is stamped and a copy of an existing electricity bill. They will want to see the original and will ask that you provide them with a photocopy. The name change will take up to 4 months to process. Go upstairs in the Kibtek office and they deal with it there. They did not ask for any further ID from us.
