I have a bees nesting (thought they were wasps but pretty sure they are bees now) in my chimney breast outside, it is made of sandstone so they have millions of entrances and exits, so too many to block up and inject spray/powder etc

Is anyone able to remove them?

Thanks

Don't know how to help you here but when we had a swarm in UK before we moved here we contacted a local bee keeper who came and removed them to his hives. There are plenty of bee hives and honey makers here one of them should be willing to take the swarm off your hands. Best place to start would be the belydesi, they may know of someone. Try not to have them destroyed as they are an asset not a pest (I know to you at the moment they are a pest!!!)

Best of luck :=)

Hi chezzi,

Have a look at this link, might help.

How to Get Rid of Bees in a Cement Step...

http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_5804672_rid-bees-cement-step.html

Bees will sting. Make sure that you and any one helping are adequately dressed to avoid being stung.

If you get stung, treat stings immediately with a piece of raw onion.

This will draw out the poison and stinger.

If you are allergic and suffer more than one sting, call a doctor immediately.

Good luck.

Yes. I'm sure it was Zigy who helped friends of ours out.

Just phone the Belidere. They will remove them for nothing.

Hope they can be removed without killing them. Bees are essential to our lives and they are in decline.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have tried to light the fire to smoke them out but the fire has a flue pipe and I assume the nest is between the pipe and the stones and it is also near the top of the chimney so the smoke didnt work and probable to high up for most ladders. I will try Ziggy, thanks, does anyone have a number?

Try an inaudible sonic bee scarer or mothballs hung close by.

Tell you what else to try.

Get an old pair of tights or stockings and jam a handful of fresh mint into the foot bit. Tie it off with a long bit of string, beat the mint so as to allow the aroma out more quickly and hang that as near as you can to the nest and run. If they are the mint smell hating type they will move on. (Don’t know what your bees are). If they are not it may balance the mothball display on the other side!!
