How much money has Turkey wasted on Ataturk statues in north Cyprus? And who paid for the horrendous and meaningless "peace" statue on the way to the new harbour?

We can look a lot closer to home for tacky white elephants in a bankrupt state.

Re: Msg 1,

Taxpayers upset about the opening of the museum of European history? Why are they not upset about the billions of their money spent dropping bombs on people in various countries ?

As for European values, what is so wrong with them? Perhaps its time the UK embraces some of them, starting with teaching their populace to read and write and then maybe some geography.

I have private pensions that are taxed in the UK. Please tell me none of that tax finds its way to the EU.

Also until I retired I got hit quite a few times with 'double taxation' i.e. living and working in a country outside of the EU and paying taxes due and then getting taxed again by the UK authorities. Check out which countries are the major financiers of the EU and then tell that none of my taxes have gone to the EU.

' its ' should rather be 'it's ' = 'it is'.

John (sorry I meant Zoots)

Message 6:

I think you are getting confused. The monuments you refer to are nationalistic and the cost pails into insignificance with the 'white elephant' that will cost EU taxpayers €55.5 million with an annual running cost of €13.5 million.

But there again you have never been good at making comparisons have you. Seeing as you are contributing to it John then at least you should go visit it just to make sure you are getting your money's worth.

Don't you just love the EU.

I wish those who are responsible are only doing this as they believe that the whole EU is about to implode and it's short history reduced to a matter for a museum. Perhaps the building could be immediately converted to a prison facility for "bent" politicians the first inmates being the EU gang. (

If you want a waste

Over £80 MILLION has been spent on an army of Brussels spin doctors - and a TV channel viewed by just 850 a day.

There are now 900 security guards on the payroll at the European Parliament - at a cost of £40 million. A further £3.5 million is splashed out on a LIMO SERVICE for MEPs.

His report on spending in 2009 demands a detailed explanation of the need for 722 communication posts that cost nearly £71 million. He notes "with concern" the £5 million campaign to coax people to vote in the European elections.

Mr Itala also singles out the £8 million a year spent on EuroparlTV.

The EU spends nearly 50 million euros to advertise the dangers of smoking whilst at the same time giving over 130 million euros to the Greek tobacco industry and a further 70 million euros to another countrys ( cant remember it's name ) tobacco industry.

The British and American Tobacco ( BAT ) industry have received grants from the EU for training as well as half a million for the development of machinery

Japan Tobacco Internation in Poland received EU funding for retraining staff.

I had a business in the UK and each year I had to submit my audited returns, yet the EU has year after year benn unable to give an audited account because the auditor refuses to sign off on it.

The EU MP's voted to abolish the submission of receipts for their expence accounts on the grounds that it was time wasting and uneconomical. Only thieves would vote for that.

The EU is one big jolly for the few at the expence of the many.

PS. I still pay taxes in the UK so feel I have the right to comment.

England would be well shot of the EU, it is just one large 'club' that the better off countries pay into to subsidise the worse off countries and what do we get out of it?! If you had 10 people, all of differing wealth levels and asked them all to put into a pot and then have a share out, what would be the incentive for the higher paid guys to do it...? There isn't one and that is just the same with the EU.

It is nothing more than an egotistical attempt to become as large as the US and is a total waste of time.

The MEP's expenses 'gravy train' would make our own MP's expenses scandal pale into insignificance if they ever voted to publish details - but surprise, surprise they voted against that. The EU's audited accounts have never been signed off since it's inception, which says it all really.

A former Conservative MEP expelled by the party over expenses allegations has been ordered to repay £345,289 in "unjustified" claims

Den Dover, 72, originally faced a demand for £538,000 the European Parliament said should not have been paid to him.

But the European Court of Justice has reduced that amount after an appeal.

Mr Dover stood down as an MEP in 2009 after being expelled by the Tory Party for "gross misconduct

What the hell is David Cameron doing contributing to the Eurozone bail out fund for Portugal? Oh, sorry, I forgot, it's not his money!
