Just reading an earlier Cyprus Today and saw the article ,"Captain takes on harbour role". Is that the Marina people have been talking about for years that was going to be built in Esentepe or is it further up nearer the Karpas? What villages is it near?

Thankyou to anyone that replys.

Hi Oakley,

Wish it was the one that was supposed to be built near Esentepe but it is farther up the Karpaz at Yeni Erenkoy

Should be finished in May.

Yes The village is Yeni Erenkoy but it is amile or two past the village when you see the sign post for Malibu beach/Hotel you are almost there. It will be a soft launch this year as there will still be some further development work

If you are over here it is well worth taking a look at progress. And stop for a bite to eat at DEKS cafe! Nice day out!

The marina will have an opening in May the East med yacht rally will visit on transit from Girne to Mersin.

I was at a meeting there this weekend i am very impressed with the facilities only problem is the distance from anywhere.

It will have two hotels and a casino, fuel quay and good onshore services.

Now they need to build one where we really need it -Kyrenia

Hi Hippo,

Know anything about the one that was supposed to be built at Kucuk Erenkoy. Is it a dead duck now?

Hoping to get up to Yeni Erenkoy in May with Hippo and the rest of the E Med Yacht rally. The marina closer to Esentepe has not started yet, lots of promises but they clearly have problems. Glad I never took the option of purchasing a birth which was offered 2 years ago for £3k!

I am hoping some-one can answer a few questions please?

Has the new road opened on the sea-side from Kyrenia to the marina area?

How far is any decent medical facility from the Marina?

Does Yeni Erenkoy have banks, supermarkets etc?

Need to make a decision about moving our boat to the new Marina and am worried about the local infrastructure (or lack of it).

Thank you,

Patricia

There is a Medical Centre in Yenierenköy and also in Dipkarpaz, but it is not always manned by a doctor. there is an ambulance for EU people and also one for Turkish people in this part of Karpaz. I don't know if a new medical centre is planned as part of the Marina complex.

The link that does not work was typed wrongly, add a c so it reads glencoecyprus.

I live in Dipkarpaz

Yeni Erenkoy just has two banks, it has small locally run supermarkets nothing like Lemar (nearest Bogaz). It does have limited medical facilities.

Thanks for the responses, a difficult decision to make as we have been awarded free berthing for a year. Unfortunately the cons are outweighing the pros at the moment.

Healthcare is a major issue as it would appear that emergency medical facilities aren't available in the immediate area? Isolated living is great if you are young and healthy!

As for supermarkets - there are quite a few small ones, a butcher, a fishmonger, post office, Chemist etc. also a weekly market(bazaar) on Mondays. The nearest bigger supermarket is in Iskele/Bogaz

The banks are local Cyprus banks and do not have a cash machine, but quite a few shops now accept credit cards and will give cash back, but at a price

Thanks dippersgirl, I had to make a decision quickly, and have now declined the offer of the free berth for a year, the main factor being the long distance to any medical facilities. They said an ambulance can take you to Famagusta and it is 45 minutes away, but as far as I am concerned, in an emergency, that could be a life-threatening delay.

pdobbo, Msg 21, please be prepared for anything up to 3/4hr or more for an ambulance here. That's what it took to get ambulance called out from Girne to Lapta when I needed it last year. On another occasion the ambulance was unable to find our property in Alsancak when someone was having what we thought at the time, was a heart attack. Medical facilities have improved out of all recognition in the last 3 years, but please don't expect UK call out responses.

Message 23: I'm surprised by your comments on ambulance call out times. I had to get an ambulance out last year to Lapta, late at night, and it arrived within 15 minutes. Obviously addresses are sometimes difficult to find here and it is best to give them a location that they will definitely know - in my case, Lapta Belediye - and meet up with them. I was really impressed with the service.
