I will be flying in and out of Larnaca airport but staying/ visiting kyrenia. Should I anticipate any problems crossing the two regions. Thanks.

For the majority of Passport holders including all EU passports there is no problem whatsoever. I also believe that for an US Citizen there are no problems travelling between the two.

EsentepeGal,

1 hour? By helicopter?????

Unless you risk a speeding ticket it takes at least 90 minutes.

RebaM,

I drive between Larnaca and Bogaz using a hire car. Its about an hour away, or slightly more.

Pick a hire car company which will allow you go cross to the north, pay 40ish Euros insurance at the border and go across. Of course you will need your driving licence.

If the plane gets in late in the evening its best to book a night in Larnaca as the insurance "depot" shuts at 9pm.

Alternatively you can arrange to get picked up by taxi £40-50 each way in my experience.

Thanks 1ceman.

It sounds as it will be a lot less hassle if I can change my flight to get in and out of Ercan (ECN), right? This is my first time visiting and I have two teenagers with me.

If you don't plan on much travelling around once you reach Kyrenia then for convenience of number of flights, lower airfares, less time in the air, a cab is your best bet from Larnaca, more economic than car hire when you take into account the border insurance and the hassle of getting through Nicosia ( Lefkosa/Lefkosia) which is not awash with signposts to the border.

Try googling for guys who advertise transfers Larnaca /TRNC to fix your fare and have the cab waiting,

Should you decide on car hire after all then you can pre-book that through links on this site.

Enjoy your stay, the people here, like the weather, are warm and friendly and delighted to welcome you.

HTH.

Again (see message 4) - Larnaca to Kyrenia 1 hr?

I don't think so.

Walkerscott - are you saying that aone.rentacar's mini-cab rate between Larnaca and Kyrenia is £25.00? I think this is probably the rate if you are hiring a car from them, not purely the flat cab fare.

If it is, it's bloody good value

1ceman, no need to book a hotel for a late night arrival, just ask the hire company to do the insurance for you, so you get it ready when you collect your car. I always do to avoid any dramas if the flight is suddenly delayed.

Hi RebaM

I am a little late joining this thread but quite new to this (so may be too late)

Just wanted to say I have recently crossed over and back again just myself with my 10 year old. I got a bus from Paphos then walked across the border at Ledra St (with cases), then hired a car with http://www.pacific-rentals.com/ who met me at the border with a sign and then I drove from there to Kyrenia / Alsancak.

Was really easy and relaxed actually and only cost 5 euro for the bus ticket with http://www.intercity-buses.com/

I am flying in in a few weeks again this time to Larnaca so looking at options and at present, probably going to get bus from airport http://www.kapnosairportshuttle.com/Location.html then collect car at border again. Just works out cheaper, when I have priced it all up.

Let us know what you do, as always good for others to have options...best of luck. You will love it there!
