Its only easy if they arent large and you dont get stopped. The border police will not allow you to bring electrical goods over, and will confiscate.

Why buy in the south and boost the economy there if the same items are available in the North?

Nurse awful, you are so right, and most of the time if you shop around it is just as cheap here,

Why have so many people got this thing about buying in the South.

Arcelik. have a very good range, and you can normally get good deals,Also there after sales is very good.

Here we go again the sack cloth and ashes brigade brigade in full voice.

Why we shop in the South

1. Because we can

2. Because for some items it is considerably cheaper.

3. Choice is far greater.

4. Because all the TC's do

I can save the cost in fuel and insurance in one shop so that argument doesn't stack up.

I suppose you would complain about booze runs to the continent would you? affecting British business.

I have seen Tc shop owners and certainly restaurateurs buying in the South, so by eating in their restaurants and shopping in their establishments ,you are NOT supporting the TRNC.

Anybody like a list?

How right 'Hippo' is, and a certain Minister of Finance bloody well knows it!

He also counts/relies on 'Hippo's', aptly termed, 'sackcloth and ashes brigade'; in fact it's these people that, in their miguided belief that they are supporting the TRNC economy, are actually doing quite the opposite, if only they had the gumption to realise it!

From the south you have to pay TRNC VAT and import tax. Not worth it matey.

Might look cheaper, but it ain't.

Also the warranty/ies are not valid in the North. If it goes wrong are you going to take it back into the south and then re-import it, pay VAT again?

HI

BUYING ELECTRONICS FROM THE SOUTH IS ILLEGAL AND , IF CAUGHT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY A FINE PLUS YOUR GOODS WILL BE CONFISCATED! ALSO IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE SOUTH TO GET IT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. NOT TO MENTION THE DOUBLE STANDARDS APPLIED TO YOU IF THEY NOTICE YOU ARE FROM THE NORTH.

ALSO , WHY SUPPORT A FOREIGN ECONOMY WHEN YOU CAN SUPPORT YOUR OWN.

I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT PEOPLE BUY WHAT THEY CANT FIND IN THE NORTH FROM THE SOUTH, LIKE FRESH MILK AND SOME VEG.

BUT I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH PEOPLE GOING AND BUYING DIRECTLY FROM THE SOUTH WITHOUT EVEN ASKING THE PRICE HERE!

WE SELL ELECTRONIC GOODS, AND WE ARE A LOCAL TURKISH CYPRIOT COMPANY OPERATING FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS. WE PROVIDE EXCELLENT SERVICE AND GOOD PRICES.

IF YOU NEED ANY ELECTRONICS , PLS ASK! WE'LL DO OUR BEST.

THANKS

YEN

And if you're looking for cheap electricals, try the local markets - Weds at Soyz in Çatalköy, Thursday at Açmenya restaurant in Alsancak, Sat at Lambousa and Sun at Pembe Gül Garden Centre in Ozanköy. You should be spoiled for choice in the North.

Looking at the electrical goods offered at the markets the majority is Chinese crap.

YYRS88- your fellow citizens don't follow your philosophy, see the happy Cypriot families in the Cyprus mall buying as if it went out of fashion.

Of course you will disagree you wish the market for yourself, i have been in shop a number of times and it doesn't even approach either the quality ,choice or price offered in the South or mainland Turkey.

Another small comment printing in capitols is the equivalent of shouting.

Oh and by the way Halos match your prices and they tend not to be so arrogant

Just an observation.

Re No.14: the majority of the stuff or sale in the south is Chinese "crap" too, or "crap" from somewhere else.

Better off buying your stuff here in the TRNC.

I don't have any problems about buying in the south but I think you need to look very carefully at prices these days as I don't find the south cheap at all apart from a very few items. I looked recently for a vacuum cleaner and bought one here (Beko) for 165TL. There was nothing in the south in known makes for anything approaching this price.

One small point, message 14, suggest you try out the markets for yourself, you'll find that the majority is NOT Chinese crap - European brands, perhaps manufactured in China (as most things are these days, including cars!) but nevertheless manufactured to EU or UK standards. And if you look close enough you will find some brands which are manufactured in the UK, eg DUALIT.
