Last night I went to eat at the Capitano restaurant on the main Girne to Alsancak road.

I can without doubt say it was the worst meal I have had ,since living in Northern Cyprus .

When I told the waiter,he just smiled as if to say ,I only serve it,not my fault. The only saving grace,

it was close to home.

I should have been warned with the fact we were the only two people there, now I know why.

There we go again. Because: what did the owner/manager say when you complained?

I feel sure I can name you one that runs it pretty close, but this is not the appropriate topic.

Perhaps the chef suffers with Sea Sickness. Have never ventured within in case I was chosen for a turn in the barrel.

My daughter, out on holiday, went to Capitanos with her family and friends and she also said "never again" she told me that both the food and the service were rubbish. It was busy and they had to wait for an hour for their food and over half an hour after requesting the bill.

I have passed by this restaurant many times and never quite got round to visiting it, however,I was there just over a week ago with a friend.

The food was superb and the service excellent.

It was the first time I had been there but I will be going back.

My friend, a Cypriot ,and a discerning diner was also impressed.

I am a retired catering manager and I assure you the budget is less than £2 a day per prisoner. In my last 5 years as manager I didn't receive one written complaint and they had 6 choices for lunch and a different 6 for dinner. Before I get slagged off for this, the amount of choices was not my idea but orders from on high.

Freedom of speech means exactly that... people should be able to voice their opinions on here, or anywhere, as long as they are based on fact. If the food in any restaurant is poor then it is fair for people to tell others. We all have the option to stay away or go anyway. I certainly don't go along with the 'if you didn't complain to the owner' stance that some put forward. I am quite happy to say if the food is poor in a restaurant but some people are not, but they should still have the right to complain on here without being chastised for it.

This forum provides information, no-one is forced to act upon it are they!

As for prisoners getting the same level of food as servicemen... incredible! Not saying they should be eating gruel or anything like... but it should not be at the same level as given to our servicemen and women. Another example of the mamby pamby nanny state here in the UK.

When I 2002 when I was getting £1.47 a day for prisoners, NHS caterers were getting over £4 a day. I often wondered how they managed to get it so wrong as sick people eat far less.

I was once given an NHS manual and had to double the ingredients to get a portion size big enough

One thing that should happen is that if anyone has a complaint about any business in the TRNC then that complaint should be supported by the full facts and the owner of that business should be invited to reply.

suzyr's postings do nothing to bring any sensible conclusion to that scenario. All of us at times feel as though we have not had the service that we have expected from certain businesses but complaints need to be processed in a responsible manner. There is debate and there is slander. Slander does not deserve to have any place on this board or any other board. So post the facts on this board by all means but at least invite the business owner that your complaints are aimed at to respond.

I have been lucky I suppose, never had a bad meal out inTRNC. Ive had ones which I didnt like, but then being adventurous with food, that is going to happen sometimes. I have however been to restaurants where I dont think the service has been up to standards. My answer, dont go there again. I think all of these posts prove that sometimes service/food at restaurants varies. For everyone that has a bad tale, someone has exactly the opposite. I am more interested in trying out the restaurants that people are saying they like. I will then make my own decision as I'm sure that vast majority of Cyprus44 members will.

For goodness sake close this thread everyone has different opinions and for some it is a way of getting one over on a business they have fallen out with. We have all had a bad meal in our lifetime but we put it down to experience and get on with it.

Threads like this should not be allowed on this site, its a subject that should maybe be discussed at home or a bar with friends not in public.
