My husband renewed his last week.

It's quite straight forward.

You need the usual things ie photos and the form that you can download from the website in msg 2. You also need to down the DHL forms and a form agreeing to put your credit card details on for the courier (DHL) service.

One photo needs countersigning and the form needs signing in one section by the same person who countersigns the photo.

You then take it to the British Consul in Lefkosa. Let me know if you need information on how to get there.

They take it from you and say it will be around 3 to 4 weeks until you get it back.

And that's it!

Good luck.

Is there anyway this can be done if you don't have a credit card? Can you pay a deposit for example?

If you follow the links in message 2 you'll come to http://ukinspain.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/what-passport/renewing-passport/steps-to-renew where you'll find links to download the form for renewal and also the payment form. The website is for Spain as passports from here are forwarded to Madrid now for processing as explained here http://ukincyprus.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports

If you look at:

http://www.fco.gov.uk

follow the instructions for passports

Scroll down to section that says 'Renewing or replacing a passport if you live abroad'

Click on A-Z (it is highlighted in blue)

Click on Cyprus

This gives you all the information you need. The form for an adult is C1 - click on the right hand side for this form then print it off.

The DHL forms are under the section 'Delivery back to you'

Click on the blue highlighted DHL form and print it off.

All the other forms you need are on this website.

Make sure you use the form C1 from Cyprus as if you use the UK version it is incorrect.

Let me know if you need more info.

By the way we took the passport in last week and they said it would be around 3 weeks.

Hope that helps

It costs 160 Euro for a 32 page passport and 193 Euro for a 48 page passport.

Return delivery from Madrid is 25 Euro.

Forms you need are:-

1. Form C1 (for Cyprus)

2. Credit card form for DHL (Delivery back to you - actually back to the Consular Office in Lefkosa and they contact you when its ready to collect)

3. Credit card form for payment for the passport

They do not take your money when you take your forms into the Consular Office. That's why you complete the Credit Card form and they take the money as and when.

When you click on the Cyprus page (as I mentioned earlier in my other posting) scroll down the page to the section that says 'How to pay'. This has the credit card authorisation form and the DHL delivery form in blue. Click on these and you can then print the forms off.

Hope that helps. Twinks x

This may appear a bit trivial to you, but do be careful about the passport photograph if you have white or very light blonde hair. I do and as the background was white, there was some discussion as to whether there was enough contrast between hair and background. This was just before they had to go to Madrid and was sorted out there and then in Lefkosa. Fortunately the decision was made that all was OK but for a few minutes it was touch and go.

Tango 1 good point, our friends signature had gone very slightly out of the box, but he said the guy was reasonable about it, and instead of making him start agin from scratch, he cut the box of another form and stuck it over,

(a bit like copy and paste) whatever that means , i'm showing off, ive seen it on my computer.

I am not surprised that the Embassy offices have been forced to close due to lack of funds - at a cost of 163 Euros for a passport from here against £77.00 from the UK, its no wonder they packed up if their only income now is a paltry £67.00 pure profit on each passport!!!

I think when its needed I will be off to UK or just slam it through the post to a mates address and wait for it to come back or get lost. At nearly 100% profit I think it is taking the p*** far too much.
