Hi all,

I'm trying to prepare myself for anymore surprises (shocks!). I have to go for the blood tests shortly to renew my work permit and I cannot remember what happened last yr.

Besides what you're paying already to renew the residency/work permit, is there anything to pay further for the blood tests when you go to the hospital?

Also, can anyone advise me cos I didn't do it in Girne last year, at Girne hospital for blood tests do you still have to go through the process of registering yourself first on arrival, paying the 7.50 and getting a number?

Thanks.

It's all another complete 'con' on the foreigner!

Why shouldn't TC's also have to undergo blood tests - after all, they're the ones mostly frequenting the 'nightclubs'?

Just in case anyone is wondering, I went for the blood tests today to the Devlet Hastane in Girne. Didn't need to get a number, was sent downstairs to the blood test bank where a girl told me to go to the private hospital - Özel Hastane in Karakum cos they're cheaper there! She would have charged me 175tl (they do an extra test in case you're going to be handling food!). I went to the private hospital to be charged 100tl!

I was pleasantly surpirsed, in and out in 5 minutes!

I went to Oya Talat's clinic in Girne, near the hospital. 80TL for the blood and TB test. Quick, efficient. No worries. No queues either. Would have been in and out in five minutes, but she was a nice lady and interesting to talk to

I went to the same place as Anthony 2 weeks ago and also paid 80TL... Really quick and really efficient - only one there... Don't forget to get your form from the police station first to take with you to the blood test place...

Took the wife to Oya Talat (opposite Girne Hospital) couple of weeks ago straight in and out in five minutes, really friendly and 80TL.

Used her last year as well, same faces and still just as friendly, cheaper this year was 100TL last year! :=)

Cost us TL100 each in Talat in December...do they just make the prices up as they go along? More or less opposite Jinomer Clinic which is, heading to town, past the state hospital and Talat is on the left... there is a large sign so you should be ok.

Carrie,

I think the costs of blood tests came down earlier this year, when the government said under sixties had to have an annual test, as it cost us 100TL last year.

Are these tests just another money making racket, do they actually check them or just bin them when you leave ?

I was told there was a newspaper article today about a girl who works in the Bo Thai restaurant who was diagnosed with HIV and deported. So the results must be checked, lets hope they're correct though!
