Just heard that Akfinans Bank have effectively gagged the Cyprus Today and Kibris Gazetesi newspapers from publishing anything more about Kulaksiz 5. There is an embarrassing image of "an alleged Akfinans executive breaks into a villa at the disputed Kulaksız-5 site in Karşıyaka" on http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.php?n=britons-reportedly-being-evicted-from-their-houses-in-northern-cyprus-2011-03-28

Akfinans Bank's court actions might be evidence that they are about to launch a mass eviction and they don't want this to spread around the world through foreign publications quoting the two North Cyprus publications. The theory being that if these publications are willing to risk prosecution by publishing then the stories are possibly true. I wonder if Cyprus44 will be next and if this thread disappears for vague reasons?

On a completely different matter, wasn't it awful that the first thing that Gaddafi did in Libya was to prevent the media publishing details of atroci

Could well be true. Have you checked with Jill Fraser who is happy to have obnixous remarks printed about the lovely people at BRT by Mr CockRoche (he calls them cockroaches!) and yet will not print the story of this diabolical injustice to innocent people, that this is true? Is the silence for some other reason?

And are you implying that North Cyprus and Libya are the same in media terms? Surely not!?

But what can anyone do? The story needs to be in the main c ities of the world, and printing the story here achieves nothing by way of justice for the3 K5 group, so maybe it doesn't matter. What about YeniDuzen???? Or have they lost interest?

Can nobody record this by phone or video the whole thing, surely then the press can be informed?

Nobody can cover things up as they did in the past, it will always come out in the end...

I have heard from my friends that Cyprus Today is banned to publish any more information about the British man ( sorry , do not remember his name) who is in jail for a road fatal accident. Freedom of speech in North Cyprus?

This issue is nothing to do with how much we all love it here, I love it there too and have not had any problems etc.

But on the other hand I do not like what I see what and how things are done by the banks, builders etc regarding dirty practices!

They will not keep these things under the bed, it will surface to bit them on the bum in the future.

All those in trouble should record all incidents of violence and take as many pictures as possible...

BTW, the "gagging order" was allegedly as a result of Akfinans Bank's appearance at court today and although the judge has not decided the outcome of the case, the newspapers have apparently ceased publication anyway. Funny how The Bank can get a result in a few days while their victims seem to have to wait forever for justice, allegedly and without prejudice

From Pauline

Seems as if Akfinans Bank LImited are on the offensive. If I tell you that I personally find them very offensive bordering on the repulsive, I am sure you will all forgive me.

Today the Bank plumbed even deeper and appear to want to keep the whole of North Cyprus in the dark about their disgusting inhuman treatment of innocent pensioners. Why, if they are sticking within the law is this necessary. I think we all know the answer. The injunction was not given but was not refused, as usual we have another hearing. If in doubt, do nothing. The impression I got was that the newspapers will tread very carefully until a decison is handed down. Where does that leave Kulaksive 5 - God only knows and he isn't telling. That does not mean God will not punish these people, in his own time. So without an injunction it seems that the media wlill kowtow to the Bank. You Couldn't Make It Up.

Well I wouldn't make any bets on that, Another writ was served (percursor to eviction) to David Wilson last night, thrown in the garden - 'You have been served TRNC STYLE'

seems that Akfinans Bank is not suing anyone for spreading lies, just newspapers for allegedly telling the truth, in my opinion. The argument is that the alleged truth could hurt the bank and this could lead to a collapse of the TRNC banking system and the government might be asked to pay back all their loans, in my opinion allegedly

I do hope one newspaper defies the gagging order and 'print' I have words to express my feelings re Akfinans Bank but think I would be barred. Everybody must tell all TC in coffee shops etc., what has happened re this order - perhaps they may withdraw anything they may have deposited there. I am sure most UK people have.

Pipie when these boys have stopped griping at one another. I dont think as many as used to bank with them

if their reaction is anything to go by.

Cannot believe that gagging the press in the 21st century is even being entertained. What happened to Freedom of the Press

The Constitution of the TRNC

Article 26

1. The press and publications are free for all citizens and shall not be subject to censorship.

2. The State shall take the necessary measures to ensure the freedom of the press and of receiving information.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Article 19

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

NCFP has been causing the host company problems because of the demand it is putting on the server (PC) where all its files are kept. I've been working with a very understanding technician at the company to sort this out and hopefully the issue is now solved for the time being. I cannot say with certainty that someone is trying to halt the newspaper but it does seem strange that there is so much activity at this important time. I will endeavour to keep NCFP up and running in spite of what appears to be unusual activity.

Marion, message 2, so you are quite happy to work for a newspaper that prints obnoxious nonsense about Jill Fraser?

And what about your boss, the Medview mafia? One of the former staffers at Cyprus Star, who left to return to England, said he wasn't allowed to write negative property stories.

How many title deeds has Mr Medview handed out?

Or does that not count?

It appears there was a court case today involving Kibris and Cyprus Today, but I've asked a friend, who knows Mr Davy quite well, and there are no injunctions in place in that case. Mr Davy just doesn't want people running off shouting their mouths off. He felt some people, who didn't know him from Adam, just wanted to cause trouble and get their names out there.

Please please please - do not turn this into one newspaper -v- another. K5 are in my opinion the issue as is freedom of the press. I have no idea who you are talking about and all we want is as much publicity as we can get before the stress kills one or all of us off.

I note you both give e mail addresses so I suggest you use those to sort out your differences.

Just for the record, |Mr Smith I work for neither Cyprus today nor C yprus Star. I occasionalloy give Nick some articles which are of concern tome - purely as a charitable gesture for the good of all. and |I would never attack anyone in a newspaper here - not my place to judge on that. Butg I am and always will be concerned about injustice and that is surely what this thread is all about. Polly is correct. As to throwing stones - i don't have the energy, but like Malcolm, Polly and others, I do believe in the freedom of the press.

Incidentlaly, it is not so much a gagging, as I am given to understand, but more of following a request! makes a difference that.

NEWS

As usual we have been led up the garden path by the legal system here. Apparently, and we were not told this by the Advocate acting for Kibris G. The Bank and Kibrs G lawyer did a deal in the court not to publish anything untll next Tuesday, so there is a one week black out for the K5 on any initimidation or violatons that take place in the interim period. I wonder what Akfinans have up their sleeves for us during this week

Well well well another arrogance on legs. Most of K5 would love to oblige you rowlo but their money is tied up just at the moment, in properties beiing taken forcibly from them. What little spare they had is going into the pockets of the legal system and advocates in an attempt to salvage their homes. So whilst you are happy and we cause ripples in your charmed life - suck it up you unfeeling moron. I'd rock your boat until you fall out if I had my way.

phlbailey - Of course musim does. All mouth and trousers, an elderly woman is just about his style.

TRNC victim, I know your situation, not dis- similar to K5 except of course you have the charming Gary Robb thrown into your mix and some of you need witness protection. May come to that with K5 with morons like rowlo, musim and the Bank around. musim a builder too, makes you wonder what he has been up to? Just asking you understand, not accusing..

Well for your info, a country that needs to gag it's press has much to hide and if you cannot see that then I am

not surprised. Suck it up.
