Big problem for me. A sheet of glass flew off a table we had outside and shattered before landing in the pool. Will I have to empty it????

Son spent Friday putting up the canvas weave on the pergola, and the side "sail" - big noise - sail ripped and tried to take trellis away with it! (Trellis at end of pergold!) Husband now fixing trellis - keeps 'em busy!! Luckily weave ok, but like everyone else, chairs and tables went for a walk and where all the stuff that landed in the pool came from I just dont know!!

Lots of water on roads to airport this morning, think they had a shower!!!

Sorry to hear about you people who have suffered damage, It was a very strange day, we watched the mini tornados from up in Baspinar, and yes lower Lapta and Karsiayka did seem to be taking the brunt,

We saw several small, almost like twisters lifting spirals of water out of the sea, also the sea was wierd, never seen anything like it before,

Small twisters lifted a lot of debris 30 meters from and 7 meters vertically from the shore onto our terraces at Celebrity.

Masses of seaweed and a large section of mat roofing as well!

Can anyone meteorlogically explain the really odd conditions of yesterday? Would be fascinated to find out what causes these.

There was a 6.3 earthquake out to sea in Turkey Marmaris Dalyan area on Friday, no damage in land but been told the sea was really rough very large waves, maybe the backlash from there.

I checked the weather charts on Monday just gone, I was going to take my boat out on Saturday,

I am no expert, but it was actually showing some strange wind directions for yesterday and if I remember quite a high wind speed,

Yet the few days before there had been some wonderful flat water.

Seeing the sea yesterday from above , it really was amazing.

My neighbors Karcher Pressure washer went from the front garden to the back and is now minus its box?

Also a 2 tonne plastic water tank (empty) went out for a jolly.

Ps If someone from Guzelyurt has lost a white Renault Broadway its in my neighbors pool....

What you were experiencing was a line squall or a series of squalls, it is a strong wind that rises quickly and dies quickly, it is associated with a cold front ie. maybe thunderstorms it is when warmer air is replaced by colder air ie again a cold front.

Nothing to do with earthquakes.

In extreme circumstances it is the theory that it can be one of the contributory causes of whirlwind/tornadoes.

Sailors try and avoid them like the plague very unpleasant when at sea.

Good old waterspouts (wet equivalent of mini 'dry' tornadoes). They experience a fair few of those south of the border, especially along coastline around Paphos area, but rarely at this time of year. Here in the UK we're also going through some unusual conditions at the moment, especially with pretty strong winds and fluctuating temps. Warming up again from tomorrow apparently, but winds still around. By the way, did anyone catch the report about Blackpool - yes, Blackpool - experiencing a small earthquake (around 2 on the scale of things) ? No serious damage though.
