I can not believe that anyone would pay for this, especially as it is meant to be a "free" service

A lot of people did donate.........I can't say if I did as I was anon. The trouble is a lot of the more established members have stopped posting because 44 is not like it used to be, why? I don't know, but it has changed. I used to spend a lot of time looking and posting, but perhaps like some of the other boards, 44 has gone past it's "Best before by date".

So many people have already been on holiday here, have a place, sold a place, or think they might like to move here, without having even visited.

I hope this board gets back to being what it was as we, Jean & I have made many friends and it is sad that the board is being brought down by people who don't really care about TRNC or the people who do care what happens here. Before anybody makes the point that we don't live there, I'd like to say that we do own a place and the future of TRNC affects us.

End of soap box.

The idea of a donation originally came from me because at the time our Greek Cypriot friends used to bring down C44 and other similar whenever an important political development wrt TRNC happened. This was done mostly by dos attacks and the owner of this site was struggling with the extra expenditure required to fight back with such attacks.

Many of you will remember the famous "TRNC Villa Owners" site. We had to start from scratch each time after one of such attacks and eventually lost the battle. We did not want the same thing to happen to C44 and hence my suggestion for financial help. It was the best donation I made in my life. The amount is not so important, the wisdom to be part of this effort was the all important thing.

We have a saying inTurkish: It takes a fool to throw a stone into a well and even ten wise men may not be able to take it out.

Please think before you criticize.

I have thought

and I will criticise

In my opinion people like Ismet, if they care about this board as they profess ? should make sure the same set of rules apply throughout, how many times do we see some topics being closed down for going off topic, while others are allowed to run while going all over the place ? answer selective censorship !

Phil,

Izzet was out of pocket for a couple of thousand pounds at the time but I sincerely hope he is in the black at the moment. As far as the moderators are concerned, they do not make a penny out of it but as members we all plug our commercial interests from time to time. The name of the game is "moderation". A new member really overdid it recently and unfortunately I had to intervene with some reluctance.

Cypgab posting as dryboak, as refused entry under proper name - non valid email address - which is being used every day!

The name of the game is moderation. Elko, I agree 100%. But what we are seeing is a high level of censorship and what seems to be a lack of democratic judgement.

I've searched in vain for the posted you started on speed cameras. I noted it disappeared with quite a number of postings but only after you received some criticism.

Having said that there is no way I would want to be a moderator - it seems to turn the head.

No I doubt you would delete a thread because of criticism towards you elko.

However I think you should close this thread down as it is going nowhere, but looks like getting a bit nasty.

Those who donated at the time did so because they wanted to.

How many and how much is between them and Izzet and Izzet and your good self.

I did ask at the start f 2011 if another round of donations was being sought, and I was told there was no need.

In other words the 2010 appeal was a "one off".

Look at the tabs at the top of the page, far right hand side click the about tab, on the about page look at the menu on the left hand side you will see the word donate, click on this it will open the donate page.

The info on how to donate is still there and presumabley still in operation for anyone to voluntarily contribute.

On the right hand side of the page there is a list of people, the date and the amount that was put in the begging bowl.

The information is still all there for everyone to see.

Fair enough, I didn't realise the list was readily available.

In that case why was this thread started in the first place?

Don't think so and going by the silence from my request from help I suspect it is '44' induced

Msg 30

from help (sic)

Should not that be, 'for help'?! I'm not sure about '44' induced, but I certainly know about a '69' one!
