Hi All,

I am moving back to the Uk having got a teaching job back there and have to get an enhanced CRB check. In order to complete this, they require a police report to show that I have not been in trouble over here!

I have spoken to a friend who had to do the same thing but she can't remember what it is I have to ask for or what is required for it... Anyone else know...? I know she went to Girne police station but she thinks if I go to the one in Lefkosa, they can do it on the same day... I'm assuming stamps will be needed and my passport - does anyone else have any idea what I might need to take and what the report is called that I'm asking for!

Thanks in advance for any advice...

I would ask your new employers, they should know the requirements. A CRB check is quite simple, but I don't know what to say on the local requirements. Your employers should have a contact with the local police and get that answered.

Thanks Gordon... would be really helpful... chat tomorrow... Anthony, thanks - Yea, it is really simple if you are in the UK but dealing with the TRNC police is another ball game altogether!! I just don't want to go unprepared!

Msg1

Your post makes a lot of sense, requiring a police report from a Country that doesn't exist but is wanted by the UK authorities?! Devise and print your own report, who'll know or care!

Spanna, I believe you should go to the Chief of Police in Nicosia for your Police Clearance. You should take your Passport with you and passport photographs also. Also your Birth Certificate and there probably will be a fee. Why not go to the Local District Officer over the road to the Courts in Girne to find out first. Regards Sylvie

Hi spanna,

I know exactly what you want as I did this before i came back to UK, so that you can get your CRB done here.

It is a police check & you need an up to date one to bring back with you. You need to go to the central police station in Lefkosa with up to date passport photographs, your passport & address where you have been living in TRNC . You will need to fill in forms there, tell hem you want the police check in Engish. They will do that though you will have to go back the next day. Unless if you go there really early you may have the chance to collect it in the afternoon after 3pm. When you collect it check it over to make sure everything is correct as they do make spelling mistakes check it!! Make sure it is stamped and that is it. It doesn't cost much TL. Aiso make sure that at the bottom of the paper it says, This certificate covers from the month & year you entered the TRNC the issue of date will be on it. You will need to buy a stamp to take with you but ask at PO

Good Luck it is not a difficult procedure to the many other things out there. Make sure you tell them that you are returning to the UK to teach & that you need the police check certificate in English otherwise it will be a problem this end then you may need to have a overseas police check done from UK.

I wish you well Anna xx

I did this already for a friend of mine. Go to the main police station in Lefkosya. You will need your, passport with residency stamp, address and proof of having lived there (ie rent book etc). You enter the police station and pass through security, like you do at the airport, then you ask to see the 'yok ceza' person. I am sure he has a better title but this worked for us. She had an interview with a police constable. She filled in a form and 3/4 days later had to return to the police station with her receipt. Within 20 mins give or take, of our return to the station, she had a document saying that she had not committed a crime whilst living here. The people there were extremely helpful to us.

Apparently she now needs the same document from the Irish government (she is Irish) and the waiting time is estimated at 18 weeks...... so not all that bad here.

Hope this is of help.

Has anyone ever confirmed references from here are taken seriously? As Brinsely says above, TRNC is not recognised by the UK, which only accepts the authority of the RoC. Apart from when extraditing crooks, that is.

The document you need is called a Karakter Belgesi (Character reference). You get it from the Police HQ in Nicosia. Take your passport, 2 passport photos and 18TL of stamps. You will have to fill in a form and the certificate should be ready for pick up by the following day.

Thankyou Mr Admin... ;)

Went down this morning, the advice was absolutely spot on - no problems at all - will pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks everyone... and Groucho - come on... why have 1 person doing a job when 5 would suffice!! They're not lazy, just sociable!!! ;)

Spanna,

It's paying for the four to read the paper, drink coffee, smoke, eat, chat amongst themselves and make personal phone calls all whilst avoiding eye contact with the public that gets most peoples' goat...

You're such a cynic... I have to say, the police station was very efficient - I wish I could have said the same for the post office when trying to get my stamps!!

Actually my first remark (msg 21) was really aimed at the UK police....

Here the clear-up rate for crime is quite good...
