We have heard of them, they are a very serious problem if your bed becomes infected, in fact it has been known for a whole hotel to be closed down because of the little blighters, the infected beds and bedding ideally have to be destroyed and the whole area has to be sealed off and fumigated.

There is a mattress cleaning service called mattress doctor which thoroughly cleans mattresses and sucks out the majority of harmful bacteria, an advisable extra service to those people who let their homes.

Bed bugs? Never heard of them. They do get small midgie type bugs called "coop de shan" spelling is probably wrong!! Anyway they fly but you cant see them and you may think they are in the bed! A vape plug in and a spray of the room before you retire normally does the trick!

If you look at the creases of the mattress thats where they hide, little buggers, their bite can cause the most nasty itching and lumps for days.

Hope you dont get bit by one.

Buy new bedding.

We have had bed bugs in many countries we have lived in. Mainly West Africa but bugs are bugs. I can live with them. Goes with the job but the missus hates me scratchin' in the mornings.

And do not kill one if you find the bugger. 20 thousand turn up for the funeral!!

And for those that dont scratch in the mornings, check out those little creases with a magnifying glass. Take your time and you will be amazed at what you see lives of us. Sweet dreams.

Appologies up front but thats life. All kinds.

Weavils in the dried stuff in your cupboards? Pasta with complimenatry protein.

Hi NoNowt,

I run a pest control company in the UK but live in the TRNC. If you are able to give me more info on where you have the problem which rooms, how long, where you live and the numbers of Bedbugs you are finding I will be able to help you. You will need to move quickly in order to stop them from spreading. Dont throw anything out just yet as this may not be necessary. Most of the time if the infestation is not that severe we are able to treat mattresses and beds.

and bedding treated outside & FWIW, he had given a 12 month guarantee against a repetition. Until I learn a bit more I am unable to confirm what the hell those creatures were, but I'm led to believe that they were in the bed and under the mattresses.

After reading another thread about dogs here I suddenly hit on the idea that your 'coop de shan' is in fact something de chien (ie dog!). During last 10 days of our stay, my children befriended a lovely discarded (puppy almost) dog which was constantly hanging around the exit to the pool area. He was constantly scratching himself and my children tend to throw their towels all over the place. However, the balance of evidence at the moment is that it's bed bugs of a sort rather than animal fleas. One of the brothers who own The Ship Inn that I’ve known over 20 years or so from Wimbledon told me about a man they use on a contract basis. The problem has been attended to by the time I contacted him. It’s not you then ?

My family & I were there for 3 weeks up to the end of August and did not have any problems apart from the usual mosquito and sandfly until we got into spraying the place religiously before going out every night.

We currently have guests who reported the matter yesterday. The nice people assisting us over there did not know who to call at first and rang me to tell me about the problem. So I thought to post here as there are a number of people here with a lot of knowledge on problems N Cyprus.

Ataturk

Thanks for your post - I'm unable to tell you much more than that there were numbers in excess of double digits according to our guests. They had tried to move to one of the spare bedrooms downstairs and found that one was infested too. In the meantime a man had been called and a specimen had been shown to him. He had expressed the idea that he knew what it was and how to deal with the problem. He spoke very little English. The upshot of all this was that the house had been sprayed

Sorry but I ‘ve mangled up my post because of the need to chop the message into multiple 1000 character parts. My apologies to Ataturk and Bowman – I think you might be able to unravel which bits are for you.

Oh dear me – I now notice that the system has reversed the order of the parts I posted. I have used forums/fora extensively but never before experienced anything like this. Maybe you need a bigger time lag between each part in addition to splitting the message.

Interesting bug you found

What a coincidence this thread's subject is "bed bugs" :D

I'll taken note and will look into this soon.

I'm good at debugging code but not bed bugs.

If the message are shown in date time order, is it possible that the seconds are not considered ? .. a small possibility as there are many different better ways of doing that. Good luck anyway!!

I presume that you are renting the property out during the summer. Unfortunatelly I am unable to tell you who infested the property but that someone staying there has brought them in. If you property is an apartment or a semi detached property you could hae inherited the problem from the neighbours.

If you have already had the premises treated you may want to see how this goes but I will detail below what action needs to be taken below

A full inspection needs to be taken initiall to establish the extent of the problem and identify the pests ( they may not be bedbugs at all.

Once the pest has been identified and assuming they are bedbugs you would need to have a minimum of two treatments. The treatments will consist of spraying all the bedrooms and living room where the sofas are located. The premises needs to be prepared prior to any treatment this can be explained to you at a later date.

I hope this helps

Hi Ataturk,

I see you ran a Pest Control co.UK and now live TRNC.

What do you know about sandflies and are there any serious complications arising from bites do you know?
