Most people fail to realise that your gut is quite literally your second brain, and actually has the ability to significantly influence your:

Mind, Mood, Behavior

So while modern psychiatry still falsely claims that psychological problems such as depression are caused by a chemical imbalance in your brain, researchers keep finding that depression and a variety of behavioral problems actually appear to be linked to an imbalance of bacteria in your gut!

I suppose it might explain the behaviour of certain mice! Extrapolation into Homo Sapiens is certainly a paper I wouldn't put my name to!

They should get down to Mardo and stuff themselves with cake and ice cream that will sort them out.

So true, just finished reading a book about food/nutrition and what he is saying is that as animals dont generally get IBS, reflux, stomac ulcers, we should take a leaf out of their book and we should just stick to foods that we can either dig up, or pick, forget what we have learned about the food we eating now, and go back to basics. We will have more enery, and be the weight we want to be........he also says that we shouldnt eat carbs and meat in the same meal as different parts of our digestive system deals with different foods and by eating meat, potatoes and dairy all in the same meal is asking it to do too much.....He also says try to eat as much food raw as possible and not to eat any refined or manufactured foods.....food for thought perhaps?

I accept the reasoning. Hence, the expression for depression "gutted" ! Not so sure about the gut being a second brain. The Wildebeest (bless her) confirms that I only have half a brain and it is in my strides.

Interesting, and with regards dogs and their diet, there is now a huge following on feeding appropriate food. That is, a pure carnivore diet as in the wild. The raw meat and bones diet has put a stop to many allergies, cancers, skin problems and behavioural problems with dogs when they are not being fed wheat and corn (common "fillers") contained in dried and other commercial "dog" food. My pup is fed raw only - much cheaper than commercial food and much more healthy!!

fantastic link Walkerscott , many thanks . We were given a Kefir culture a couple of years ago by a neighbour who extoled its health benefits , he had brought it over from Turkey. We kept it " alive " for about 6 months and took it over to Uk with us but change in conditions killed it. Do you know anywhere in the trnc that we can get aother culture?
