We are 3 2nd year Midwifery students studying at Edge Hill University UK. We are looking to do our elective placement in Northern Cyprus as we have accomodation, the placement would be for 2 weeks, does anyone have any contact information for maternity services in Northern Cypurs (Kyrenia) as we have tried to contact 3 hopsitals which have obstetric units and unfortunately have yet to receive a reply, time is running out and we desperately would like to do our elective oberservational placement in Northern Cypurs. Any help or information anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in antipation.

You may have chosen the wrong country to complete your elective observational placement - in my experience natural births in this country are practically non existent, as are midwives!

Type in gynaecologists in the search box and you will find names and phone numbers for them. Also try Near East Uni

If you send me an email:

I can arrange for you to visit our hospital while you are here. Potentially not enough to keep you going for 2 weeks but I think it certainly would be interesting for you to see what we do. Numbers is right though, approximately 90% of women in North Cyprus have caesarean sections instead of natural deliveries.

If you have trouble getting a placement here it should be easy enough to commute to south Nicosia.

Good luck with it.

Thanks, we have the opportuniy to observe at the Mother & child Centre in Nocosia. They have said that it would be really difficult to travel there each day as we have to cross the border and may need visas... Do you know if this is the case.

Hi as long as you are EU citizens you will not need a visa and it is easy to go over the border on a daily basis, a lot of people have a much longer commute in UK!
