The TRNC Blood Bank, with the assistance of the BRS and Chateau Lambousa, are holding a blood drive this coming Saturday 16th April at Lambousa Market from 10:00am.

Blood donations are of immense importance in the TRNC as, apart from the usual requirements, Cyprus has an endemic thalassemia problem, placing huge additional demands on blood stocks.

If you can give blood this Saturday please, please do.

I was advised a couple of yrs ago that rules are the same as the UK - if you've ever had a transfusion for example you can give.

Gordon, I have a question but don't know whether you'll know. Is it possible to have blood taken for storing in case you need it yourself in the future? Useful if you're a rare blood group.

Re Msg 9,

Hi Pippie,

I'm not sure but I think the Blood Bank should be able to clarify policy and protocol on the day.

re msg 7, the age restrictions aren't completely the same as the UK, as long as you are fit and healthy come along, your BP and hemoglobin are tested for both donor and recepients health.

Re msg 9, blood can only be stored for 30 days after which, it is after it's use by date I'm afraid, another reason the blood bank is always after blood.

Hope that helps

If anyone has any questions regarding giving blood, let me know and I'll try to get the answers for you.

We really appreciate your help with every unit we can get for the blood bank.

We have organised the Lambousa donor days with Gordon to make it easier for people in the Lapta and Alsancak areas to be able to donate their unit of blood, there will be another donor day in Girne on Saturday May 21 at the state hospital. You cannot give at both, there should be at least three months between donations.

Thanks
