OK. A happy joke. A poodle and a collie were walking down the street. The poodle turned to the collie and complained, "My life is a mess. My owner is mean, my girlfriend is having an affair with a German shepherd, and I'm nervous as a cat." "Why don't you go see a psychiatrist?" asked the collie. "I can't," replied the poodle. "I'm not allowed on the couch."

Should I be happy? Married friend wants me to meet her cousin's son who is years younger than me. She invites me to her beautiful home in W. Argyle for a dinner party. She tells me not to mention my age, and she will not, as she thinks I will pass for many years younger if I look as I did 2 years ago! What would you do? I am not a good liar!

i am happy most of the time. life is too short not to be! earlier this week our friend told us he was getting married today, to a lady he has only know for 4 weeks, and who is young enought to be his daughter. i have been very unhappy all this week. we decided not to go to the wedding in protest as we don't think he should be marrying this gold digger. there is no fool like an old fool, but nobody likes to see their friend be taken for a ride. so i'm still very p'd off today, but a few vodkas later on along with a nice meal at niazis should sort that out!

Fire starter.... give your friend and his bride the benefit of the doubt... you don't want to lose a friend and you don't want to put a curse on his marriage either I would think.. You may well be right but have to hope you are not... Let's hope if a fall does come it's not too painful for him and you remain steadfast for him, as a true friend

Firestarter. I think he is old enough to know what he is doing, just wish them the best of luck and let him enjoy his new bride, you never know, there may be a pre-nup, or a bun in the oven soon. Hugh Hefner has 3 gals living with him and he doesn't seem to care that they are spending his money like its going out of fashion. Like Groucho says, if you are a good friend you will be there for him through it all, but give them a chance, it wont be a good start if his friends start deserting him and giving her the cold shoulder.

turbo, we tried yesterday to get him to make a will, even offered to pay for it. so he would be safe guarded if the worst happened. he is not thinking with his head right now! he has 3 kids and 2 grand kids in the uk, i was trying to think of their future as well. unlike him! he has totally lost the plot. i would like to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she has not yet shown me any indication of why i should. she dumped her dogan car and now drives his merc. she gave up her job so he can provide for her. she used to live in a rented flat on which she owed back rent, now she has moved into his house. they didn't even invite his kids to this wedding. so as you can see something is very wrong.

firestarter - it sounds like your friend needs you more than ever - don't give up - be strong - he may be desperately happy at the moment let him enjoy his time. I am happy today - the weather here in Essex is aboslutely wonderful - it could May or June, the mist has cleared and it's beautful overlooking the Estuary.

Groucho, and the second most popular boys' name in Britain is Mohamed - if you include all variations of spelling, that is. Actually that was as of June 2007, so it may even be number one by now. That would make it even harder. Just have to look for the Stiff Upper Lip! Fred

Groucho, what are the queues at passport control in UK?, One for EU passports, and One for Non. Do they still have British Passport line? I don't think so. I was just repeating what I heard from an Englishman last time I was in the queue, his words "more bloody foreigners than Brits".

Have had a happy weekend. After days of rain, mild sunny weather which allowed me to walk with friend round Pollock Park, Glasgow & to the Burrell. It was lovely to see families out enjoying the beautiful park. I feel very fortunate to have the best of both worlds. Looking forward to the Mod this week, and next month to N.Cyprus. Both very fine.

Turbo "I was just repeating what I heard from an Englishman last time I was in the queue, his words "more bloody foreigners than Brits". " Well he was an ignorant fool, in a country (UK) wanting and encouraging tourism what else should he expect... There are many more people living outside the UK, which despite the weather is still one of the world's top holiday destinations... so consequently more foreigners to visit.. how daft can people be... To expect those visitors to put up with deferential treatment for UK residents returning from their holidays is as crass as it is insulting to the intelligence.. Makes you wonder how he coped when he was abroad, I mean all those non-Brits! He must have found it so frustrating... many of them dare to speak something other than English... what cheek....

Groucho Nice one! I met an elderly Englishman while working abroad who lived in U.A.E. He came out with this stuff about how Hitler was right etc. etc. And I had thought him a decent sort of man,( actually bought bottle of champagne for his 80th) You meet plenty of ignorant Brits. working overseas, although I have also met some great characters.
