That is a stunning piece of observation on your part.

But now explain to all why you think the concept is a 'rip off'

I think he means the idea is a copy based on the original which is often referred to as a rip-off. i.e. not the real thing.

So what it's a take off of EBay.....we all know how difficult it is to get things that have been posted to actually arrive so if the item is in TRNC surely that is good for everyone. Sometimes when you have nothing good to say, it is prudent to say nothing.

its the trnc fake it copy it rip people off when people get ripped off give the cyprus shrug tell them they bought cheap & call them whingers then take the goods bought off them...................

I agree with message 10.. what a good idea, as you say, hard enough to get any post here so if it can work here so much the better,

This looks like a really good idea. We all get a dedicated site to work with, hopefully, without the negative comments that seem to appear on here sometimes.

The real Ebay, delivers here no problem........you just need a P O Box. And look for items from sellers that will post Worldwide.

I think it's a great idea and good luck to whoever is behind it. I hope it takes off and I really don't think the real Ebay would be overly bothered even if they new about it. Calling it KibBay may allow people in the TRNC to understand what the site is offering i.e. an Ebay type of service, but I doubt they are going to gain anything else from it.

Same old wingers that jump on anything anyone ever does here...

GOOD LUCK,

How is 'Kibbay' breaching international trademarks?

Are you telling me that any business name with 'bay' in it is breaching international trademarks?

Hi, I feel that I must explain something, This has been put together as a platform for residents in the trnc to be able to buy and sell their items in an online auction. Their will be no shipping from England and such like. The service is essentially free. Though there will be very small charges for featured adverts. You know how on eBay they charge you for everything. This just charges you for the featured adverts if you choose to opt for them. At the minute when there is not too much on their, a featured ad is not worth using. "though every account is also credited with £20 as a welcoming. so you may have a lot of featured ads for free. But as I was saying. when the site takes off and gets as busy as it surely will, You may then be interested in a featured listing to get yours noticed above the rest.

As for the question about paypal. No you will not need it to buy and sell as we recommend that you only accept cash on collection. This will save us having to worry the scam word

Brilliant idea for people to be able to generate some income for themselves, and businesses too so that they don't have to sit in their shop and hope someone will walk in. So many people these days like to shop from their couch. Best of luck, I hope you get the customers you will so desperately need.

Hi, Thank you

I hope it goes well.

We are having one problem at the moment

xxxxxxxxx@aol.com email addresses are not

supported by our system at the moment

We are upgrading to a HTTPS system soon

So the site will be even more secure.

Plus when we shut down for a few hours to make

the upgrade we will address the aol.com issue

Though for the moment please use any email

provider except aol.com

Thanks and sorry to the aol users.

We have now integrated a facebook share button in the site.

So once you have placed an Item for auction. When you are on the

page of your Item, You can click the Facebook Share button

and the page with your item will then be shared on your facebook

with the picture of your item as the facebook thumbnail.

This will draw more people to the site and to your page in particular

Increasing the effectiveness of the complete site.

I hope it works well. I tried using the one advertised on here by "PacMan" but was useless. I gave up after 10 mins. These sites need to be straight forward and easy to use.

It is still in the process of set up really.

We are saying 15/5/11 for an official

"opening" if you will.

The site is running now quite well in fact.

But this is the sort of thing that you can`t test

100% without using it. So we are getting the word

out there and fixing the minor issues as they come.

There will be a short shut down next week as we

chance over to a dedicated IP and HTTPS secure.

That will not take long though and no data will be

lost. Plus hopefully that will help with the issue that we

have involving AOL.com and email bouncing.

Thank you all for joining and to those that have not

joined yet Please do. It is you that will make this work.

If you enter an item please click the tweet button

and the facebook share button when you are on

the page of your Item. This will draw huge attention.

Thanks

Have a look at the site, it bears no resemblance to EBay!

Saying that it's a rip-off or fake is like saying Tesco's is a fake Adsa or a rip-off of Sainsburys! Unfortunately, it's not a custom designed site. It is, in fact, a free script that anyone can download and install on pretty much any server. see .....

http://www.webidsupport.com/

if you want to have your own auction site. More importantly, look at .....

http://kibbay.com/contents.php?show=aboutus

and be VERY dubious about any 'UK based company' that provides absolutely NO contact information. I suspect that this'll vanish as quickly as it appeared.

"Northern Cyprus Ebay Online in 30 days"

Maybe using 'Ebay' in the thread title is what has drawn the adverse comments and comparisons... which the originator of the thread could have avoided.

It seems like a good idea, lets hope TRNC Gov don't get too interested.

Ok, That may have been a bit of a mistake. But it grabbed attention so it served its purpose. Every day the site is being improved. There are some problems still that we are aware of. firstly when you register your password must be at least 6 letters. and the user name must be at least 6 letters. The password and password confirmation must match. The email address must not have already been registered,

IF any of these things are incorrect then the registration will fail. The system will redirect you back to the same registration page with NO EXPLANATION of what happened. This leaves the user confused and sure that the problem is with the system.

That issue is being addressed at the moment. There are some other things such as the main page featured display Icons coming in different sizes and being jumbled up.

We do understand that we are far from ready to be called anything like good. But please be aware that we are working on everything and the site will be a pleasure to use

It will all work the same. The listings are required to give a location. Plus you may contact the seller before you commit to a bid. The only issue after that is the collection of the Item. We have suggested that everyone uses a cash on collection rout, for two reasons. one, You will not pay for something that you do not get. and two. there is no postal service to speak of so a paypal payment would be pointless considering that you will have to meet the seller to collect the item.

Never the less the details like that are up to the individual.

So the answer would be it does not matter where anyone lives in cyprus as long as they can meet for the collection.

Honesty in the listing description will play a big part. but until people start getting feedback no one will know. The feedback scores will be a good way of judging the seller or buyer.

Best of luck to all.

Please don`t list any items for the next 2 hours because we are changing from GBP to YTL today.

I still don't feel we need this when we have the 'For Sale' section on Cyprus 44. Which is less hassle and works extremely well.

But good luck anyway.

Dawn we think alike. I have just been reading down the list, and when I saw you have to pay cash and go and get any article you buy, I thought - what's the point, we already have the For Sale section on here. I was about to write exactly what you have written.

I wish them good luck, but I will stick to ebay or putting articles in the For Sale section here, or in Star paper.

I do feel sorry for all the people that don't get their letters or parcels, but equally don't understand why some people do and some don't. I have a P.O. box in Lapta and buy off Ebay and online all the time, and in the last 3 years have only had 2 things get lost, and both were replaced by the seller, when I told them.

It may look like that now. But I have huge plans here. Within 6 months I will have many of the northern cyprus shop owners using the site to promote their products. When that happens. It will be a case of going online. entering the name of the thing that you want. Being presented with a selection of suitable products. Then getting the one for you at the right price.

When anything is starting out it is hard for people to see where it is going. Well I can see.

You know that when you want something you have to go to many shops to get the right thing at the right price.

We will change that.

No doubt now someone is going to say that shopping is enjoyable and I am wasting my time.

We Will see.

This project is going to receive so much effort that it will not fail.

I look forwards to it.

We are upgrading to HTTPS and dedicated IP.

What's all the fuss about postage, as with Ebay, where it says collection only you have to decide whether it's viable to collect, if not you don't bid.

Anyway it's such a small island, most things will be either from Lefkosa or between Girne and Esestepe, hardly a mamoth drive if you're getting a bargain.

The benefit of an auction site as opposed to something advertised in 44 or in the papers is that it will go to the highest bidder, so some bargains will be had.

We still have some problems at the minute with registration and confirmation emails.

its protected by international copyrite -just because you are on devils island doesn't mean that ebay won't try and cause you problems.........

Personally i'm fed up with all the lawlessness and cheating going on here................

The name is only in the thread title. I could have called the thread anything I liked and still not been in breach of any copyright.

Your nickname is well chosen. You should lighten up and enjoy being on "devils island" rather than finding fault with anything that comes within 100 miles of you.

Good luck with the website KibBay

I feel compelled to post and say what a load of moaners some people are! Good luck to you for trying to make something work here and Message 54 'and then you have to collect it?' oh boo hoo! Its not like you are in the UK and Argos is at your fingertips! If you can find something you want and need online then I am sure people would be happy to collect the item save driving from shop to shop looking.. Also if this person has big plans perhaps they will buy some vans and hire some drivers to do deliveries?

Very short sighted and negative all the people who jump on any new idea or attempt at progress you should all be ashamed of yourselves!

And any FOOL who read the title and didn't already know that it would be an Ebay 'type' site well sorry you shouldn't even be allowed to post on a forum if you don't have a brain! Like Ebay is about to set up here?!

And also in possession of a law degree? Hence the 'copyright laws' yaddayadda

Yawn

To be honest I have been thinking the same yet It would not do me any good to say. Thank you. Quite an entrance. remind me never to get on your wrong side

We are down at the moment due to some changes. The 2 hour estimation of downtime has been misunderestimated as George Bush would put it.

Thank you post 66

You have made my day.

We are sorting out most of the small problems that we have at the moment so all should be well.

As a matter of interest the number of registered members is 39 two of which are test accounts so the true count is 37. Yet there have been 1250 unique visitors to the site and 5000 hits in the past few days. So if you are waiting until there are more members before you place any listings PLEASE DONT.

Just get in there this thing will fly I can assure everyone.

Its obviously not our idea, these things have been done before. never the less it is a good idea to set one up here. This is not tin pot, we are doing everything properly and ever improv

Hi, I have contacted the hosting company. They have told us that it may take upto 48 hours to propagate fully. This is not the original story that I got but not too much that we can do at the moment. Yet another problem. We are sorry that it is taking so long. But it is a one off thing. Plus we have managed to sort out quite a lot of little problems that there wore it the mean time.

Once it starts working again we will be nearly there. Another week maybe after that of tweaking and it will just be a matter then of maintaining the site. we are looking at an american ticket system instead of the email support as well.

This is taking longer than we anticipated and there have been a few more problems than we thought but once we are up and running, this will be a VERY reliable VERY secure website, and an easy system to use. We are also looking at some upgrades to install and debug before the official launch 15/4/11. Sorry for the delays at the moment.

Hi,

Please dont visit the site at the moment.

It is open but it will show you an untrusted

certificate warning.

This is because the registration and application

is only half way through the process.

Thanks

Sorry that was supposed to be 15/5/11 I just clipped the wrong key there on message 71.

The new Ticket support system is up and running now though the site is not fully functioning. The problem is that we have changed from a shared IP address to a Dedicated one. Now when the site is visited, the browsers get confused and the site will not load correctly.

Once it settles you will be able to visit the site and the Green HTTPS will light up in the address bar meaning that you and your information is 100% safe from the outside world. This is the same system that the banks use for internet banking so you can rest assured that all measures are being taken to protect you and your data. Normally we wouldn`t go to this length but the registration requires you to enter some minor details that you would not like to share with the world such as email address.

The other reason was to prove to everyone that this is serious. Not just a here today gone tomorrow effort.

Thanks

KibBay

Hi,

I think we are nearly there now.

Should be back up and running ok

There are still a couple of issues with the FIREFOX browser

that will be fixed soon.

But everything is doing ok, The site is now HTTPS so everything has been proven to be 100% legitimate

and 100% safe.

Sorry about the wait but It will be worth it

Thanks.

We are getting there.

Every little problem that we overcome is a step nearer perfection.

We now have a support ticket system in place, access from the home page.

We are also in contact with AOL and YAHOO trying to get them to let our emails

through. I know its good that they have some spam protection in place, But it seems

to be doing its job a little too well.

We have everything in place to get the blocks removed. But for now if anyone registers

with an AOL or YAHOO email account we are manually activating them.

We are getting there.

Plus there is a minor charge for featured front page listings and what we are doing

at the moment is that for everyone who registers before 25/4/11 they receive an automatic

50TL credit to their account so that they can get lots of front page listings for free.

This credit has no used by date but it will not be available to claim after 25/4/11 so

It is well worth getting in soon. HTTPS is active

Tha

mess 18.....

AJ - they are clearly trying to mis-lead the public by using the word "bay" in their name - if they weren't an auction site, maybe it wouldn't be so bad............

why does the trnc have to be awash with fakers and cheats ?

they are clearl trying to convince an unsuspecting public tht they are some way affliated to E Bay - which obviosly they are not...........

the reality is that if this site was launched from a "proper" country - E Bay would obtain an injunction and get them shut down in days................

Please can I just point something out to you for a moment.

http://www.c-bay.co.uk/

http://www.swindonbay.co.uk/

I could reel off a few more UK based websites that are in fact AUCTION sites

Who have the word BAY in their URL and they are in no way affiliated with eBay.

It seems that you are trying to do us down on no solid grounds and for no good reason.

We are doing EVERYTHING that we possibly can to make this site a valuable asset to

Northern Cyprus.

We have invested time and money it the site to make it secure and easy to use.

You should be careful with your words.

"Fakers and Cheats"

"clearly trying to mis-lead the public"

"Clearly trying to convince the unsuspecting public that we are an affiliate of Ebay."

The word EBAY is in the title of the thread. That is not against the law.

I can see that you are trying to provoke me into a slanging match in order to invalidate myself and my site.

The only true thing to say here is that you are talking compl

Hi Kibbay,

Can't wait til go live date, just registered!

Just one point I noticed, under Terms and Conditions (yet I read them!), item 4.1 Visitor Conduct, don't forget to insert the hyperlink to your privacy policy!

And, if you would welcome some feeback from a speed read of the Terms(! sorry can't help but be picky):

Section 1 - "will only be accessible only if you have registered" - take out one of the "only"s.

7.1 - should be "Liable", not "liability"

Section 8 - you lost your font style

Also in section 8, "...Legal Notice are ..." should be "... Legal Notice is/are ..."

Hope this is useful, otherwise, just ignore me!

If anyone does not get their confirmation email it will be because they are using AOL or Yahoo "possibly MSN"

We are manually confirming the registrations in those cases and the problem will be resolved soon. though It will not hinder your usage of the system.

Thanks Everyone.

This is set to be a success I think.

Though It will only ever be a success If enough people take part.

So I still have my fingers crossed

Thank you.
