BBC programme "Inside Out" starts this week Wed 7.30pm. One of the weekly programmes is about buying properties in the TRNC and the Estate Agents that market the properties. Will this be yet more doom and gloom and one-sided reporting?

Much as I would like to be pleasantly surprised I have a feeling this will be yet another opportunity to frighten people off. I can picture the report starting with the beauty of Kyrenia harbour and the surrounding areas and how people fall in love with the North, yada yada...followed by the predictable footage of lots of half finished construction sites and the usual propaganda that us Turkish Cypriots are used to. Let's see...

Hi all, Would like to be optimistic about this aswell as it would do trnc the world of good!! BUT Im sure it will be the doom and gloom version instead!! Although today there was a great positive double spread article on NC in the "mail on sundays travel supplement page 6 and 7" Which is GOOD to see a positive article on NC instead of the normal gloomy ones!! See ya D

No Dodger its not this weeks - there is a series of 9 and as yet I'm not sure which week it will be. Scams in Spain are also being reported on too. If I hear more I'll let you know exact date.

I looked it up too and couldn't find anything so it would be good to know when the program will be featuring the TRNC Good news about the Mail on Sunday report too.

I registered with the BBC Inside Out website in the hope of finding out when this programme was on and got instead an e-mail from Vikki Sloss of TRNC Property warning website!! Although, it is nice to know of the pitfalls of buying property (which we already knew there would be some), I'm a bit annoyed that the Beeb somehow or other passed on my email address without my permission.

Having been told about this programme I can't find any details on the website as to actual date and time. I do note that someone on one of the other forums has put the e-mail address of the head of BBC and is suggesting that if an unbalanced view is presented people should make their feelings/experiences known via the identified link. Do you think this show might be connected to the overseas property demonstrations that are set for Sept 21st,22nd,23rd in London? Check out the badges that protesters will be wearing on http://www.homebuyerspressuregroup.com/ Serious stuff!

Hi all, I wonder if its VL Thats doing the doom and glomm programme or is connected and thats how she managed to get your e-mail address??? Otherwise how else would she have it??? Also What is happening I cant understand if these guys are trying to put people off trnc or are trying to make people aware of the pitfalls so they dont get caught??? Either way the badges and what they say in the articles are like they are "DEAD AGAINST TRNC" - R we sure some are not Gs as it feels that way?? See ya D P.S- I do appreciate these groupd that try to help people but do it tactfully!! DONT GO INT LIKE A BALL IN A CHINA SHOP-As thats whats giving everyone else a "BAD IMPRESSION OF NORTH CYPRUS" Which in my opinion doesnt help the rest of us who are happy with our purchase!! NOT EVERYONE HAS BEEN STUNG HERE ITS ONLY A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE!!

WHOOPS LAST MESSAGE ON WRONG THREAD !!!! Sorry not me Penguin - I don't know how you got an e-mail, We are currently setting up another website designed to guide perople safely thru the buying process. Although it looks the same as the other website at the moment, the wording is different. we want to have different topics and links to show that it can be safe buying in the TRNC but to do homework. We need ideas and input to help others. We will not name and shame on the new site - warning website is for that - but guide people to the right Estate Agents, Lawyers and Developers etc. Please feel free to send us your recommendations. We will be happy to use those that have names and e-mail addresses attached Vikki http://www.northcypruspropertyinfo.com

Bradus has mentioned that it has been mentioned previously. If you wish to read what has been written it is on frankandjoan's website and it is in his news section dated 23rd August. Frank had received an email mentioning a programme that looks at developers and agents, Frank has responded with an email to this bbc bod and mentioned that perhaps a more balanced view should be put across of the TRNC and the turmoil that has occured, people should be aware that there are 2 sides to a story instead of always listening/believing the GC's version.

Just been checking out the Inside OUt programme through Sky. At least 11 BBC regions were showing it but there were at least 8 variations of what was shown tonight (Not sure if they are starting the series at different points per region). Didnt see anything on TRNC but saw the Spain one and it was all gloom & Doom so can only imagine what the Cyprus content will be about

Another article in a Sunday paper, unfortunately a doom and gloom article it is in the Home section of the Sunday Times, and reveals a couple's unfortunate experience with Gary Robb and Aga developments and how they have parted with their money and have as yet no home, infact they 'share' it with someone else who has bought the same property. The article mentions that buying in NC (due to the partition in 74)is a'potential minefield for foreign purchasers, many of whom have "bought" property, only to find it is still claimed by a former Greek owner who fled the invading Turkish forces' At the end of the article it asks-: own a property in Northern Cyprus? Tell us about it at timesonline.co.uk/property

Hi Lovelife, I suggest those who happy with purchase should respond to times invitation and hopefully the positive replys will outnumber the probable doom and gloom contributions and provide a more accurate veiw. I shall certainly respond. regards p

Re 'Inside Out' programme: It is scheduled to go out on October 17th at 7.30pm on BBC1. That will be in the BBC South region. BBC West may also show it on the same night. Failing that, you can watch it anywhere in the country on Sky channel 984. Andrew Head

Pilgrim Excellent the more people who are proactive and respond with their positive outcomes, the more we should get a balanced view of peoples experiences when buying in NC. and who knows we may even get an article written !!

Took this from another site. I am not sure how far Victoria Loss and co are prepared to take this. Possibly until they see the collapse of the TRNC. IMO much more sound advice seems to be coming from the HBPG. __________________________________________________________ "Angry Turkish Cypriot and British homebuyers handed out leaflets to browsers, warning of the dangers in investing in property in the region. Among the demonstrators were UK-based members of the Aga Buyers Action Group, who have paid for homes in Arapköy that are yet to be completed. Leaflets referred browsers to a number of websites and warned buyers of “possible pitfalls” when buying property in North Cyprus. These included missing funds, half-built properties, no title deeds, double and triple-selling and homes built on neighbouring land. “We want to warn others about what can happen there,” Cyprus Today quoted one participant as saying. The leaflets warned that homebuyers have little protection in North Cyprus due to legislative loopholes and hinted at “highly sophisticated international corruption.” THE AGA SAGA Hundreds of British homebuyers who have bought properties at the Hazreti Ömer and Amaranta sites in Arapköy developed by Aga Development Construction are yet to have their properties completed. Aga buyers, whose case has been taken up by the new TRNC Property Complaints Office, have recently been asked to pay an additional £3,000 to £11,000 to have their villas finished after it emerged the developer had not purchased title deeds. The Home Buyers Pressure Group – a lobbying organisation for North Cyprus investors with property worries – refused to support the protest. A spokesman said: “As such action at the current time would counteract progress that is being achieved in the TRNC. The Aga recovery proposals and other property completion plans are reliant on a stable construction industry and property market.”

Why the sudden turn around ? What has changed ? It would be nice to think the HBPG has valuable information, as to a completion date for Amaranta or maybe they know, all the victims are getting refunds ! Come on HBPG let us all in on the information - why keep it to yourself?
