Lee99,

Some 2 years on, I cannot find out if our exchange land was voluntarily exchanged (as we believed) or just offerred in exchange (and maybe not taken up)

If you listen to some of the more extreme views on this board, in the event of a settlement

to The Cyprus problem, we could be asked to pay again for the land our villa is built on, having already having paid the builder for it (contract stated that it was his to sell). In that event however we would be the owners of a plot of land in the south of the island (but no one will tell you where it is)

A complete and utter shambles!

However in the event of a satisfactory settlement to the Cyprus Problem, were the exchange land principle ratified, we would become, the legitimate owners. This is what we are hoping for.

There has been no agreed exchange of land between the North and the South. There is no piece of land in the South that you could actually lay claim to. The exchange occurred between the Government here and the TC leaving land in the South. They surrendered their Deeds to the Government in exchange for points that enabled them to have land here of equivalent value. Unfortunately there is no piece of paper that says plot A in Esentepe was exchanged for plot B in Paphos.

no land has been exchange. thats what the estate agents tell you ,to sell it to you.

at this stage in reunification talks it would be unwise to buy exchange land as you may find a greek cypriot claiming against you for it, at a later date.

have a look on line about the orams case then make an informed decition.

First you say you thought the land "your" property was built on land which was exchanged voluntarily, then you say you will be offered land in the south to compensate for losing your ill-gotten gains in the north. Utterly comical...
