I am posting this on behalf of friends - do not reply on the Forum as I will not be able to answer any questions/queries – please use telephone numbers provided.

Due to a marital breakdown, it is with very heavy heart that my friend has to find a home for her baby – her 4 year old Rottweiler called Dave.

Dave is a very friendly and loving dog and is a house pet (not a guard dog!) and very much loved so this is a very sad time for them.

Genuine enquiries from British only please.

Please call

British only? So any Turkish Cypriots born in England. Wales, Scotland or Ireland would be acceptable? Or indeed, anyone else British born? They should take this huge dog back with them - there are more than enough dogs being abandoned daily - and a rottweiler needs someone with strength and understanding of the breed, too many are used as an extension of the male appendage........the marriage has broken down? This dog is part of that marriage and between them they should pay for its repatriation to a country where it will be much easier to re-home - sick of reading about dogs being left behind..........

Democracy means all opinions are allowed!!!!!!!!!! I would never have a rottweiller, but if I did, and it had an unknown provenance, and knowing its size and strength; if it broke free once, I would ensure it NEVER broke free again until trained by a professional and deemed safe to be around humans and other animals. Although myself an English (British) person, I find it offensive that for some reason (not given) only British enquiries are welcome. Surely if a home is needed, as long as the person was knowlegeable about the breed and had a kind heart and room for the animal - isn't that paramount? I'm not the only person who sees that TRNC is sinking under the weight of abandoned/re-homed/feral/unwanted animals - causing accidents, forming packs, causing grief to residents and other animals, whilst having a miserable time of it themselves, and the situation is getting worse. I consider dogs to be family members.

totally agree with message 2 - a baby is not self-sufficient and should be taken care of by it's parents!!!!!!!!!!!! albeit they are breaking up. A dog is not just for happy times but sad as well

I wonder if Mr Racoonchic has seen this posting, although I do not totally agree with the acidic comments made by the 'lady' on here, I would certainly agree that to take a dog of this size without known provenance could be disastrous. The poor dog will be scared and confused and perhaps because of this may be unpredictable.

I hope someone who understands the breed will give him a good home, someone who may keep him whether their marriage breaks down or not.

If I had a dog here I could never leave him here and return to the UK. I am thinking of moving house to Karsiyaka and already I am fretting over the wild cats which I feed here in Girne, and actually, it would be impossible to take them with me, I just so hope that the other residents of these apartments will look after them. We have fed them for 2 years now and paid for vet bills when they were ill. Animals just so get themselves into your heart and you simply cannot just abandon them.

Good home for him please

Please don't discount the Turkish Cypriots as owners.

Friends of ours rehomed a rescued Dobbie recently to a Turkish Cypriot family and they couldn't have found any better owner.

Rescued from a Brit! Rehomed by a Turkish Cypriot.!!

With so many dogs needing rehoming i don't see how people can pick and choose.

Be gratefull that someone is kind enough to take on the dog.

You can't judge people by their nationality.

I know this dog and it's owners.

Firstly - you CANNOT transport a Rottweiler on a plane - it is considered a dangerous breed, so it cannot be taken back to the UK. Secondly - some of these posts are extremely hurtful to the owners of Dave - this is already a very difficult time for them, and Dave is a very much beloved part of their family. Thirdly the reason for asking for Brits only is that they have had enquiries already from locals who only want to stick the dog in a cage in the garden to bark at anyone walking past their house. It may be a horrible generalisation, and unfair to a lot of cypriots, but they want to make sure that Dave has the best home possible.

Dave is a loving, lively big dog who enjoys swimming. I sincerely hope he gets a good home because he deserves it and I know it is breaking the owners hearts to have to leave him.

Norman (stormie) xenophobia is your yardstick by which to choose a new owner? IF it is loved, then you would want it to go to ANYONE who can demonstrably show they love and care for dogs, KNOW what the requirement is of taking on a rottweiler, and has the finance, physical strength and large enough area to have the dog. To show such hatred of ALL Turkish Cypriots says everything about you, and absolutely nothing about the vast majority of them. Hundreds of dogs are badly treated/abandoned by BRITISH people on the Island daily - hardly then any more of a recommendation than the minority of Turkish Cypriots who badly treat their dogs. One wonders why you ever lived in Cyprus, indulging in such spiteful sweeping generalisations of the indigenous people. Some airlines don't take rottweillers - plenty do, so that won't wash! Contact the rottweiller breeder on the Greek side, or drive it back to UK - it will require lots of effort and paperwork, but you are the owner, YOUR responsibility

I also know the owners of " Dave", and the reasons for them having to re-home him. I think there have been enough comments on this forum, over time, as to how animals are mistreated when in the hands of the wrong keepers. I sincerely hope " Dave " can get settled in with a family who will love him as much as his present owners do.

In merseyside we have a word which I'm particularly fond of, in fact when we're fortunate enough to be able to finally live in North Cyprus full time I won'tbe able to leave it behind. As much as I'd like to be able to integrate into the community (and I've been learning Turkish for the last five years) when I get the blessing, i'll insist that the local community adopt a paraphrase for my favourite word.

Good luck in homing the dog, I'd take it tomorrow if I wasn't a mere swallow. A friendly Rotty is probably the most loyal dog a family could wish for.

The word......

Please have a heart..The owners marriage has broken down this is a very painful time for all involved..Why do people on here have to be so down right judgemental all the time giving their tuppence worth ! Please re-read post 1,the numbers are there maybe someone might like to go and visit the dog and see for themselves....

BTTT.. The title of the thread is not asking for your thoughts on the matter !

I've asked my ex- husband to email you photos, this dog is my baby, he is loving and gentle and love kiss's and cuddles, his very clever, you can introduce a new toy and with in seconds he will know the name of the toy, and when ask to go find the toy he will choose the one you have asked for. he is also a great swimmer, just through the toy into the pool and he will dive straight in to get it, i have had great fun with him, and so have the pool men when they come to clean the pool.
