I have taken my old antivirus off so that I can download another free one but now I can go on other websites but when i click on any free websites I am getting page cannot be displayed. Has my Old antivirus left something behind to stop me downloading a new site?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

@ msg 1, siggyyyy: Sorry, but you can't just "take off" software from a PC hard drive. You have to use a de-installer (which good software companies provide for free) or special (free) de-install software (unless you know exactly where to look). It's the only way to get rid of ALL the (hidden) files which usually are written during an installation in many places of your hard drive.

You'll find the solution for your problem here:

Shelagh I beleive that Hans is correct

1] It might even pay you to reinstall it just to find the de-installer (but I'm no expert so ask someone who is).

2] Please instal another antivirus system ASAP maybe from Avira, AVG or Kaperski as soon as you can as now you and your computer are at risk when going on the web (email or http://www. etc)

It's unlikely that any anti virus software would stop you from using any website. At worst, it might correctly warn that a particular website is considered 'risky'.

Best practice is to fully re-install your old virus protection, then uninstall it using the correct uninstall link from the programs area of the control panel. Reboot your system then visit .....

and choose one of the free, industry standard packages that they've reviewed.

It's also worth using a free registry cleaner which will help prevent problems after uninstalling software that hasn't been particularly well written.

As well as anti virus software a good firewall is a MUST to prevent a whole host of other nasties from getting access to your PC or laptop. For recommendations for both, also see .....

I have downloaded an uninstall (Revo.) I have gone through the procedures on there which clears all the history an so forth. I have visited all the links and when it comes to clicking on any antivirus website it shows page cannot be displayed.

I cat remember which ant virus I deleted so cant try that one.

The only other problem I am having is my skype is very delayed(40 secs) and was having problems with this before deleting my nti virus. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it and it is still the same. Not sure if this is linked in any way.

any further help would be appreciated.
