Can anyone give me a (reasonably!) straight (as of this moment lol) answer about the distance from the shoreline that can be built on.

We had a JCB arrive here at Karsiyaka on Saturday saying they were building very close to the 30m mark. I know we've now joined with Lapta and there is a lot of confusion about the boundaries. It is my understanding that "tourist' facilities can be built but not private homes?

There's a lot of mis information being handed out amongst the neighbours here, perhaps deliberately to confuse us?

Joanjelly, I noticed you talking to someone down there this evening - anything you can add from your vast store of local knowledge?

I believ that there are also restrictions on height when building near the sea front is this true,

Paul.

Beaches are only leased for 49 year max terms subject to renewal even to TCs...

I believe the beaches are seen by the military as a security issue (possible invasion) and P2P is not generally forthcoming for an ex-pat owned property on a beach...

This could all be rumour and misunderstanding , which is not uncommon as every local expert seems to differ on these points

On cliffs? Who knows....

Hi Jo,

Well that's the interesting thing ....since they arrived with the digger on Saturday morning and parked it, there was a flurry of activity, cars and people on Saturday and Sunday but not a soul has been seen since and the JCB is still sitting there? Kind of weird?

It's on the edge of the rocks between the little bay at Karsiyaka and the firewatch tower.

Mark, we were all told September 1st was the amalgamation date?

The best information/advice we've had so far is to go visit the Land Office in Girne with the site map and ask them for clarification ..... aiming to get to that tomorrow and will post results (if any)

So Krin52 what is weird about a JCB turning up on site and then nothing happening? Apart from your perspective of course because you dont know what is happening, thats what's weird. Shall I clarify for you? The 'flurry of activity, cars and people on Saturday and Sunday' was due to the fact that as the owner of the land; myself and several of the Boyut Construction personnel plus members of the local council and of course the JCB driver were there for the start of my build. 'No soul has been there since' not weird at all we were testing the site and as it turned out we needed different equipment. New JCB arrives and hey presto the build starts. So you see like so many of these posts on this site you were ill informed or should I say NIL informed. If you have any comments to make about my build please make sure that you arm yourself with the correct information and speak to me personally. I do have a couple of more comments to post when I find the relevent threads, until then chill

Mrs P why so defensive? Surely the point of this thread was to seek clarification rather than relying on mis-information. How could anyone speak to you personally when they did not know who you were?

So it seems like it's being built but the owner won't be allowed to occupy?

joandjelly, Thanks for your post. I understand that you may think I was on the defensive but I wasn't I just dont like gossip and mis-information (especially if it concerns me personally). Everyone knows who the contractor is so it would make sense to contact them for the answers. Also it has amazed me that my little project has taken up even a nano second of someone else's time.

Hi Mrs P. let me ask you a question, how far can a home be built from the shoreline?

Sadly i am not there to ask your contractor the details and also owning some land quite close to the sea, i would like to know how close one can build a private home?

I live in California , hence why I cant ask personally.

Your input would help a great deal .

Thanks in advance.

You can always email me your response if that is preferable to you.

If your location is anywhere near the small harbour at the Lapta/Karsiyaka border you really should contact me,

Hi, it used to be 100m, it is now 200m from shoreline...unless permission was granted before restrictions came into force

Thanks Skogsy but less of the 'ol' if you dont mind! Good idea but by the sounds of this lot it'll have to be a war ship!!!

Frontalman, I'm afraid you're taking the moral highground a bit there doncha think? You live/visit here so you are by virtue of your presence using resources and impacting on this island, sorry to point out the obvious but hey.

Reply to Turbo, unfortunately I can't help as I wouldn't dream of giving you info that wasn't correct or turned out to be misleading, so all I can advise you to do (as I did) is go through the proper channels armed with all (and more) of your paperwork, pens and some spare red tape (in case whatever office you go to runs out), time and patience. As far as I am aware different rules n regs for different areas that change year on year so do your homework. I sorted my project out a long time ago so things could be different now. Stewart posted a comment so maybe he can be of assistance to you.

Thnks for the reply Mrs P. but it i am not in a position to inquire personally.

Can someone tell me the exact location please, or GPS coordinates.

There are certain areas that even TC's cant get PTP , the military has a lot to say about the coastline from Lapta to Karsiyaka, road access or too close to "certain" areas. I dont mind doing a little bum kissing ,dont want to kiss the wrong bum :(-

They may all want a kiss on said nasty area. thanks

Mrs P, I don't have a problem with new places going up - it's just the location that erks a bit. I must admit when I posted I was thinking of a completely different spot. Now I know you are in a fairly well built-up area my concern has diminished. Good luck to you. Nice to know I had the moral high ground for a while, Eric Seans usually claims that!
