Continental Bank are still giving 6% on stirling if you tie it up for 3 months, which in theory is pretty good. On asking, I was advised that the first 20,ooo Euros was guarenteed by the Cyprus Central Bank, though when push comes to shove it probably matches the Iclandic promise.

In July I tried to establish if the amount then quoted as 10000 euros was per account or per person and I got varying views from different banks. One of these said it didnt matter as their bank had more money than the TRNC government. Another said 10k euros per person or 20k in joint names.

Today Iktisat divided a payment into 33000ytl tranches in one name to be covered by 20000 euro guarantee.

No idea who is right!

The correct answer is 20,000 euros per account. So what Iktsatbank have done for you is correct.

That said, if a crisis does come about, which is unlikely in the view of most here, you may not get your money and certainly not very quickly. They were still settling 3 years after the event in 2001.

For me, best thing is to ignore any comments of doom and gloom on all of these forums and just make your own mind up based on logical process.

Iktisatbank confirmed to my friend by email that it is 20,000 Euros per account. She was told she could have as many accounts as she wanted and it would not affect the interest rate.

Further to above post Turk bankasi confirmed 20000 ytl per account.

if you go to open an account there keep a day spare they are so slow and have girls who do not have a clue what to do . Same job at Iktisat took 4 minutes , at Turk bankasi Karakum it took 55 minutes.
