Bright sunny day here in Devon.... of the to shops soon to buy 2 more England Flags for my car... can't find last year's ones. Hardly a mention of the day on UK TV, but that is not a surprise really, apathy rules for such things it seems.

Quite agree Blackpool... but today is especially an 'English' day. Just with the country would celebrate it or it will be lost to the younger generations.

Not seen too many flags here in Karsiyaka and I suppose in good old England it would be considered improper by the local idiots on the councils. Mustn't upset anyone! Where I hail from in North Yorkshire, we celebrate Yorkshire Day on lst August, all the farmers went out and bought the white rose flag and the local council told them they would be fined if they did not take them down (even though they flew them on their own land). You can imagine the farmers' responses, they just went out and bought even more of them and displayed those too. Intransigent lot us Yorkies. The council had to back down pretty sharply as there were some rumours that the farmers were going to use their muckspreaders in the council carparks! Typical of good old England. That's why we left it. We live here but our hearts are still there.

Our local council has decorated the streets with flags of St George & is having joint St Georges & Wedding celebrations next Wednesday. I know it's a bit late/early, but I suppose in these days of austerity they have to be careful about spending money unnecessarily, so better to lump the two together. Plus Saturday is Market Day so there's not too much room in the high street for celebrations.
