Coming out at the weekend & really do not want to find our fuse has been stolen. Has anyone any idea what kind of fuse they use in TRNC so perhaps we can bring one with us. Thanks.

Hi Wicks,

The fuse in our apartment is a 60 Amp House Service Fuse, I bought some spares from TLC in UK (tlc-direct.co.uk ) Code MM 604R. This is just the fuse not the plastic holder, couldn't those in UK.

I've read about this on another site, where the builders, well the workforce, have no supply and have been told to just take the fuses and use the supply from houses where they are not occupied

You might find this link useful in as what to watch out for ;

I do know somebody from this site that was talking to another member who was complaining about his supply being 'stolen/used' and as they were speaking, tbey guy who was listening watched as the workmen took the electricity supply away from the villa of the one complaining and watched as they tried to connect it to his house!!!

get yourself an A4 sheet of 5mm perspex from the UK (Glazier should be able to help), cut hole in meter cupboard and rivet in place.

We remove our fuse each time we return to Uk and put it in apartment. Then just replace it when we get back to apartment. Means no electric in apartment while we're away so have to leave fridge empty

Went to wholesalers, the fuse is not the problem it's the carrier they have trouble getting, there are loads of different sizes. So just keep fingers crossed our is still there, they said make a note of number & the will order one for me. Guess what, I'm taking ours out when we leave this time, to much grief from my better half. Looking forward to happy hols.

Me too, wish I could pass on the food rather than throw away, but I guess unless you know people personally, it's difficult to accept food.

Sadly yes, Kibtec remove fuses for non payment, so rather than pay their bill some people steal someone else's, leaving you with a bill for 90YTL, Can't just put a padlock on as the meter reader obv needs to be able to see it.

I have got some of these fuses/carriers from the UK. First come, first served.

wicks

You can get the fuses in the UK as I had some bought over with no problem when mine was pinched twice.

Beware of what you put round the black plastic covering the fuse, as in our apts they all put a strip of metal across and screwed them to each side, well that's was fine for the holiday makers but as I live here and electric in constant use, my meter caught fire and left a gaping hole if I wasn't here it could have been a lot worse.

Buy a hasp & staple c/w with small bolts,drlll and fit to box , fit padlock, cut a slot in the door of the meter box to enable meter reader to see numbers & post the bill (dont forget to leave spare key with whoever looks after paying your bills whilst absent) should only take about 30 mins to fit
