Marking respect for those who fought for our freedom and sacrificed their lives should be a perennial observation - I am wearing my poppy and I know so is Richard Brinsley!

I trust the 'link' [below] will be of interest to all British expatriates living in TRNC, or CY44 forum members and readers back in the UK.

mustafa kemal Atatürk 1934 Anzac remembrance day

" those heroes who shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. therefore rest in peace. there is no difference between the johnnies and the mehemets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours.

you, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosoms and are in peace. after having lost their lives on this land they become our sons as well. "

to all those who lost their lives, rest in peace. . .

I agree, our service men of yesterday and those of today are fighting for all the freedoms which we enjoy. They deserve our thoughts, remembrances and support.

The dawn service at Gallipoli hit BBC World news which must be a first. My TC neighbours couldn't understand why the Kiwi flag was flying over my balcony!
